Good morning.
One a four game series against the Mets. Had we won just one game in these seven series, we would have finished 85-77.
My one complaint against the manager is he does not instill a team environment. I see lapses in performance and concentration.
Going three games seven times and not winning shows these lapses.
Seven sweeps was 0-22. We were 78-62 other than this seven series.
Just sayin.
Cardinals were swept 7 times

Re: Cardinals were swept 7 times
Getting swept at Boston, Toronto, Seattle, NYmets, and the cubs the last 3 games was not surprising - these teams were just better than the Cardinals. The real killer was being swept at Pittsburgh without scoring a run! The Pirates took the season series with the Cards 7-6. Inexcusable. Another terrible outcome was losing the season series vs the worst team in MLB - the Rockies. They came into St. Louis in mid-August , when the Cardinals were still over .500, and took 2 of 3, same as they did in Denver. Their inept pitchers shut the Cardinals out twice in these 6 games. The Rockies taking that series at Busch was followed by the Yankees coming in and sweeping the 3 game series, and the Cardinals would not get over .500 the rest of the season.

I would think a 1-2 series was more likely but didn’t happen. Adding a win in those five series, plus a win at Pitt and just .500 against roks, puts us over .500.12xu wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 08:17 am Getting swept at Boston, Toronto, Seattle, NYmets, and the cubs the last 3 games was not surprising - these teams were just better than the Cardinals. TLR and Shildt hated losing enough to instill that in their players. Oli obviously doesn’t or can’t. A winning attitude starts at top. Playing a hard nine every day starts at the top. Finding ways to win starts at the top. Of course a better manager could have avoided some of those sweeps.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 05:32 am Good morning.

I tried but no luck, to determine where 7 stacks up against the league. Any help?
Re: Cardinals were swept 7 times
While I am not agreeing with the Cardinals 'runway' approach for 2025, Oli was tasked to play underperforming players who the organization wanted to see if they had a future with the team. Thus, he had to play Walker, Gorman, etc. in many games to see what they had. Well, that resulted in those two players getting action in 111 games with Walker a .215 BA .584 OPS and Gorman a .205 .666 OPS
Did Oli want to win the games those two played ? Sure but he also knew the odds of the team winning was greatly reduced with both of them in the lineup yet that is what he was tasked to do .. Play a couple young guys that other managers would not want nor need to play in the lineup .
Could Oli have had a better team record without Walker and Gorman getting 111 games, most likely several more wins. We had to painfully watch them in the lineup . It's not that Oli didn't want to win more games . He had to win with players that other managers would have not played 111 times of the 162 game season.
