Looks like Burleson will continue to be a utility player

Post by Shady »

With Contreras staying at 1B and Herrera returning to catcher. Burleson's role next season also depends on if Donovan and/or Walker get traded.

He's a DH, at best. Herrera returning to C frees up DH. Not sure what the problem is.

So do Pages and Pozo get non-tendered? Is crooks the new backup and should we forget all about his 2 hits in his first 40 ABs?

Burleson's flexibility and Herrera moving back to catcher allows Bloom to shop for the best production/salary combo he can acquire at DH or corner outfield. Which is a major need.

I think he should get 40 lashes with a wet noodle. How dare he not come out of the chute firing on all cylinders.

burly sitting out today means they will trade him for a minor league pitcher. Book it!

One can hope. We have more use for the pitcher than a "utility player".

If it were JJ Weatherholt or Jackson Holliday going to 2 for their first 40, the town would be (was in baltimore's case) in an uproar.

Holliday took a while to get going. Most do.

If you look at their remarks, they are careful not to say Herrera will be catching. He has a surgery, they have given him a program to implement, and they have said they will take another look in the spring. Don't give away his LF spot just yet.

“Utility player?” “Flexibility?” Since when is playing varying degrees of bad defense in the OF and at 1B considered “flexible.” Reality check: he’s an entirely one-dimensional, bat-only player who is a liability in the field. One can credit him for having his best season offensively without going completely delusional.

But enjoy this attention.

When your lineup "anchor" only drives in 69 runs for a season your lineup might be in a world of hurt.

I don't see Walker blocking Burly. Walker shouldn't be on this team next year.

Burly will be in LF/DH most likely if Nado is gone

And he'll likely get plenty of starts again at 1B. Contreras ain't getting any younger and has had some injury issues in the past. Therefore, the "utility" label again in '26 is likely for Burleson.
