Carbonneau going down
Just saw where Korac tweeted that Justin Carbonneau was saying his goodbyes to the guys after the game. He’s headed back to the QMJHL.

He's gonna be a blast to watch. He just isn't ready for the NHL this year. I think they filled him with confidence though and let him know specifically what he needs to work on. And he got to watch the other players. He learned a lot about what it takes to play at that level.

Agreed. He made an impression. He did about as well as he could. Excited to see him develop and round out his game more. He’ll have a better shot of making the team a year from now.b-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑27 Sep 2025 23:03 pm He's gonna be a blast to watch. He just isn't ready for the NHL this year. The Blues handled this really well. He sees that he isn't that far away.

He couldn’t make the big club instantly? Bust

He's going to dominate the Q this year. Hopefully team canada gives him a true shot at making the WJC team

I can’t remember if it was Doug’s pre-camp presser, but I remember seeing him say that he’d rather the prospects go back and dominate to gain confidence than stay up and struggle. I think that’s a great approach in this case!billybaseball wrote: ↑28 Sep 2025 06:20 am He's going to dominate the Q this year. Hopefully team canada gives him a true shot at making the WJC team
Re: Carbonneau going down
Well, I'll admit that I really thought they might give him some regular season level of competition games up here to further the experience and then send him down. But this is the right decision...have to approach every game all season with best opportunity to win, especially in the early part of season as well as the other mentioned reasons for his development. He's a smart, motivated kid; he's seen enough now to grasp what to focus on while getting a lot of playing time and success.
With him and others knocking at the door, we have a lot to look forward to and soon.

I expect a big cut to be announced today. AHL camp opens tomorrow.

I hope you're right. I think it would be good for both groups. Guys like Mailloux and Snuggerud need a heavy dose of NHL level reps in practice.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑28 Sep 2025 09:03 am I expect a big cut to be announced today. AHL camp opens tomorrow.
I could see guys like Dvorsky, Stenberg, Stancl, and Skinner (that level) staying in StL longer though.

Re: Carbonneau going down
Still unsure if Jiricek goes back to Brantford he seems like hes beyond that level of play already. The grind of the AHL may take a toll on him but the Blues are really high on him. I dont think hes ready for the NHL this will be interesting to see how his development plays out. Is he the first RHD called up from Springfield if needed?b-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑28 Sep 2025 09:10 amI hope you're right. I think it would be good for both groups. Re: Carbonneau going down
I'm glad that I got to see a bit more of Carbonneau against NHL players. It's so encouraging. My favorite play was not his goal, but the headlock that he had on one of the Hawks players near the net.
Re: Carbonneau going down
I still hope Jiricek eventually goes back to JRs but he had another solid game last night. He's very poised with the puck and can handle the forechecking without throwing the puck away but I still think he needs a season where he can play 25 minutes a night in all situations.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑28 Sep 2025 10:47 amStill unsure if Jiricek goes back to Brantford he seems like hes beyond that level of play already. For me the problem is before now he was no where close to that, very difficult to make such a big decision based on such a small sample.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑28 Sep 2025 10:47 amStill unsure if Jiricek goes back to Brantford he seems like hes beyond that level of play already. Re: Carbonneau going down
I don't think they see Jiricek at the "possible NHL call up" level of development yet. He's played so few games the last two years and he's so young (turned 19 in june). Monty did mention Skinner as a player who has caught his eye at camp. I've seen Skinner have several good practices, but I don't know who would be the first call up on defense. A guy on another site said that Skinner was good in Springfield last year.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑28 Sep 2025 10:47 amStill unsure if Jiricek goes back to Brantford he seems like hes beyond that level of play already.
