They won 99 games in 2023 - 4 years after he left. If Rodriguez was the primary reason for their success then it's a good hire.
Meanwhile Boston got worse while he was there.
Is Carlos Rodriguez from Tampa the front runner for Cardinals GM?

Sorry to jump on but maybe Bloom learned from Friedman. If he did that could be very good for the Cardinals. Isn’t the Brewers POBO an acolyte of Friedman?ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑26 Sep 2025 20:50 pmIt's now the end of the 2025 season. I'm thinking Friedman had a lot to do with Tampa's success.ecleme22 wrote: ↑26 Sep 2025 19:07 pmRed Sox farm system:ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑26 Sep 2025 15:47 pmBloom worked for Friedman. Bloom was one of the architects behind what is known as "The Rays Way." He helped them pioneer a strategy that allowed them to draft and develop their stars rather than go out and spend big money to sign them. He did the same with the Red Sox after they hired him to take over as Chief Baseball Officer in 2020. SI.com

The Philadelphia native began working in player development for the Rays as their assistant director of minor league operations in 2008 and is credited with developing “The Rays Way,” a player development plan that has shaped how Tampa Bay has worked with prospects throughout the last decade.

So yes, it was indeed Bloom and not Friedman who put together first the Rays and then the Sox systems.
Now he's put it into place for the Cardinals, let's hope it's as successful!
Perhaps Boston was an anomaly and he will turn around the Cardinals but I wouldn't give him as much credit as some are for what happened in Tampa given what Frieman accomplished in LA and Bloom's firing at Boston.

Yes Arnold worked for Friedman. Bloom could be great but all I'm saying is this stuff about Bloom being the sole reason for Tampa's success is not correct.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑27 Sep 2025 14:29 pmSorry to jump on but maybe Bloom learned from Friedman. That's more than fair. But than you followed that statement up in your op with " Boston got worse when he left". See how that completely reframes the whole conversation?ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑28 Sep 2025 06:24 amYes Arnold worked for Friedman. Boston is in the playoffs. I think Red Sox fans would argue they got better when Bloom left. I understand the story that Bogaerts and Betts trades were ordered by ownership but if I said they got worse I misspoke - or mistyped.2ninr wrote: ↑28 Sep 2025 06:44 amThat's more than fair. He is leaving Tampa, just announced tonight
This guy was the key to Tampas international successes
Very good hire
