Cards have NOT been officially eliminated yet

Post by hmoss859 »

Local media and MLB have dropped the ball on this, only ESPN recognizes Cards are still alive, albeit odds are probably 1000-1

Need multiple teams to finish 81-81

Mets 0-4
Reds 1-3
Dbacks 1-3
Marlins need to sweep Mets
Cards 3-0

Nobody owns all the tie breakers, so next is division record

Division record

Cards 27-25
Dbacks 27-25

FYI, all others are 500 or below with division records

Intraleague record next

Cards 59-55
Dbacks 56-58

Yep, and that just shows you how trashy all these so-called playoff contenders are. The Mets can't pitch, the Reds can't hit, and Arizona has some combination of those two.

I ran the probabilities.
The Cardinal Playoff chances now stand at 0.006%.
Abut what they have always been this year:)

So you’re telling me there is a chance we could win the World Series.

No I’m telling you the local media has no clue how multiple team tiebreakers work, LOL

Somebody gets to 82 wins it’s over

Cards lose 82 it’s over

Reds got to 81 wins today, must get swept in Milwaukee

Dbacks getting crushed at home to Dodgers, must lose 2 of 3 at Padres

Need Mets to lose tonight and then get swept by Marlins

My focus is not on Cardinals getting into playoffs but if they can be spoilers possibly knocking Cubs out of 1st WC spot.

if the Mets beat the Cubs tonight , (as NYM trying to hold off Reds ) there is a secondary wildcard story getting less attention.

A loss by Cubbies tonight ( Padres idle ) , would have chicago just 2 games ahead of Padres with 3 games remaining .

Cubs host Cardinals for 3 at Wrigley ... Padres host D'Backs in final 3 games.

The added drama is that Friday , the Cards /Cubs game is afternoon with Padres game late night .
So Padres will know outcome of game prior to their game . Same on Saturday as Cards/Cubs also afternoon game.

If the event , the WC no. 1 spot is up for grabs on Sunday all teams play at 3 pm local time.
Like to see the Cardinals dump the Cubs and hopefully knock them out of top WC spot .
The Cub fans would go wild not having any home games in the WC round . We can only hope

Mets up 2-0 in first, Cards could be officially done tonight

Phillies up 1-0 in 6th, a Marlins loss eliminates them

There's a part of me that hopes Milwaukee goes all the way.

I have no skin in the game (so to speak) regarding the teams fighting to get there, but from a "it would be nice" perspective, seeing a low-budget, small mkt team take everyone out would be satisfying.

And whoever makes it into the playoffs will not last very long. But as Mozo the Clown has told us for the last 12 years, “All you need is to get into the playoffs and anything can happen.” That was true when there was ONE wildcard team and it played a real best of 5 series. But a low wild card in a short series is toast. The higher seed will generally have better pitching to shut them down for 1 or 3 games.
