How would this infield be going into '26?
Wetherholt 3B, Winn SS, Saggese 2B and Burleson 1B. Assuming Contreras would waive his NTC to certain teams. And, hopefully, the Cardinals could get a decent starting pitcher (a 3 or 4) in a trade for Contreras. Keep in mind, Contreras has an injury record and he's not getting any younger.

Has WC given any indication he’s waiving his NTC?Shady wrote: ↑22 Sep 2025 16:56 pm Wetherholt 3B, Winn SS, Saggese 2B and Burleson 1B. Assuming Contreras would waive his NTC to certain teams. Not that I can recall. But things could change.ecleme22 wrote: ↑22 Sep 2025 17:01 pmHas WC given any indication he’s waiving his NTC?Shady wrote: ↑22 Sep 2025 16:56 pm Wetherholt 3B, Winn SS, Saggese 2B and Burleson 1B. Looks highly unlikely. But we can sure dream about it.

That would probably be NOT ideal.Shady wrote: ↑22 Sep 2025 16:56 pm Wetherholt 3B, Winn SS, Saggese 2B and Burleson 1B. Assuming Contreras would waive his NTC to certain teams. I think JJ needs to be the 2nd Baseman. I'd keep Contreras for 1st. Winn at 2nd.
Saggese, though I am high on the kid, still hasn't warranted a starting job. Options at 3rd kinda stink. We need a bat from outside the organization that csn provide the needed pop and production - Eugenio Suarez.

Re: How would this infield be going into '26?
The infield has a chance to be a strong point of our team next year.
I think Winn takes a step forward offensively, I like both of our likely first base options, and while I think he's our second baseman, JJ could be a good enough fit at 3B with Sags at 2B.
I don't think any of them would be STARS...but I could see it being a "greater than the sum of its parts" type infield.
I have no such faith in the outfield or starting rotation, though.

Your infield may be pretty accurate other than 1b. Its Contreras. I think Burleson plays corner OF in 26.
Re: How would this infield be going into '26?
Some really good discussion. I feel, the invaluable experience Saggege was able to get will enhance his production going into next season. He may surprise like Burleson did with some opportunity/experience.
Re: How would this infield be going into '26?
Here's some attention. And no, your dreamboat will not be the starting 1B next year. And if Contreras "has an injury record and he's not getting any younger" why would any sane team surrender a "decent starting pitcher" for him.Shady wrote: ↑22 Sep 2025 16:56 pm Wetherholt 3B, Winn SS, Saggese 2B and Burleson 1B. Should get them fourth maybe fifth place. About where owners want them.Shady wrote: ↑22 Sep 2025 16:56 pm Wetherholt 3B, Winn SS, Saggese 2B and Burleson 1B. Burleson is trade bait.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑22 Sep 2025 18:07 pm Your infield may be pretty accurate other than 1b. Its Contreras. I think Burleson plays corner OF in 26.
Re: How would this infield be going into '26?
Obviously we’re assuming Arenado moving on
so, without any other trades:
1B- Contreras
2B- Wetherholt
SS- Winn
3B- Gorman or Donovan
I like Saggese but to me he’s a utility man.
Of course Donovan could wind up in LF and who knows with Gorman.
I don’t see Contreras being dealt. NTC and with Arenado going you need Contreras in the lineup.

When did Donovan get traded?

In the bizarro Shadyverse, the Cardinals traded him straight-up for Paul Skenes. And then they traded Jordan Walker for Bubba Chandler.
