I really wish the Blues had drafted Craig Janney instead of Jocelyn Lemieux. Jocelyn's value & pedigree was unwarranted and pumped-up by the recent success of his brother Claude as Stanley Cup champ. But I digress...although a fantastic player, Janney would not be a candidate for the Blues HOF.

And Mike Shanahan should not be either: He was convicted of Securities Fraud, but more significantly under his watch the Blues made serious bad moves which resulted in tampering charges, costing us many high draft picks for years as well as players already on our roster, along wth hiring the eccentric Mike Keenan...all leading to the Blues being set back for 10-15 years. Oh sure we had some success during that time, but we should have had more.

Janney is probably the first person I think of when I think of prissy player who lost board battles. One of my least favorite ever Blues. When they traded Oates (who needed to never get on the Cup so much it made me root for the Devils over Ducks in 2003 ... Steve Thomas was a danger to get his name on the Cup that year too, just no) they knew they could only get 75 cents on the dollar and Janney was 75 cents with no heart. Shanahan went into the corner on him and took away his wife, and all he could do was spew profanity in the hapless San Jose locker room when the Blues dumped him there. I happened to be there to listen to it, I will not forget it.

win a board battle. his 1992 playoffs against the Hawks was a disgrace

Good for him. Some guys seem to be given things. Others have to keep working after work just to get. Jackman put his in.

I'm not big on numbers being retired forever. But the ideal of numbers not being used for a set amount of years seems about right.
I'd give #5 a good ten year announced "retirement"

When he was traded to Hartford, they welcomed him with open arms, gave him the C, and basically rolled out the red carpet for him. And then all he did was complain that he didn’t wanna be there and forced a trade. Not too mention some of the other questionable stuff he’s done.
Kelly Chase used to say the Blues traded him to Shawshank. Everybody hated Hartford.
