I think a full year in the A would be better for his development. But...

I don't see it at all, not out of camp. Dvorsky appears to be closer. I'm a big fan of Otto but he needs a block of games in the A.

If the Blues send both Stenberg and Dvorsky back down those two (and some others) could potentially tear it up and create a big problem for the Blues GM. They do not project to 4th line.

No offense but this is a fan blog. It carries no more weight than a random poster here saying “I think Stenberg could push for a spot.”

And the article loses a lot of credibility for me when it said, “ As it stands, Stenberg projects as a good third-line center.”

Stenberg hasn’t played C in at least 3 seasons. I think he has the ability to go back to it given his high hockey sense but he’s not making the NHL as a C after 3 years in lower leagues as a LW.

I do think it’s possible Stenberg makes his NHL debut this season but I very much doubt he makes the team out of camp. He is one to watch though. Not super flashy but he’s tenacious as heck, very smart, skilled and very good in front of the net and along the boards. Very good hand-eye coordination which makes him very good at tips and deflections. I expect him to have a good season in Springfield and perhaps earn a call-up at some point.

I don't see DVO or Stenberg making the team out of camp unless there are a couple injuries. It will be good for DVO and Stenberg to play top 6 minutes in the AHL and gain some chemistry. If everyone is healthy Texier probably wins the 3rd line wing spot pushing Bjugstad down to the 4th line. Texier's main problem has been his ability to stay healthy. Having guys like DVO and Stenberg as call up options is a great place to be for depth during the season.

If Texier wins a job I hope you are right. I don't root against players but until he shows me something I'd prefer a long list of other players.

I don't know all the details about his past problems but when you are a professional you have to show up and compete. Saad was traded, I'm really surprised Texier is still here. i mean, Lucic might take his roster spot!

I really like this kid. He stood out at camp the past summers.

DD is not a dark horse and likely trending ahead of Stenberg all good but this is a player who I would not put a mantle on.

I'll be very interested in seeing how he does in NA against his peers plus.

This 100%.

They've been saying it for 3 years now. They are wanting to do right by their youth and not rush them.

Unless they are just blowing everyone else out of the water like Parayko and Edmundson did the year they broke into the league, I don't see them starting up here. The Blues will need the depth. They need their top young guys to play important minutes and dominate in the AHL before they are brought up here. They'd have to be playing pretty much every night on the 3rd line and with the amount of contracts and guys they have I just don't see it right now.

If I have a top 10 pick and I use it on a forward then the expected timetable for him to be on my main roster is in his D+3 year, which this is for Dvorsky. He played the entire year in Springfield last year getting top 6 minutes and at 19 was selected as first team rookie all star. Him appearing on this year's roster is not rushing this player.

Unless he face-plants he'll get NHL games and ice time. He did LAST season, figures to get in a lot more this season.

If the Blues weren't a playoff team coming back off an incredible mid-season turnaround DD would simply be penciled in. The Blues have playoff aspirations, it's a higher bar for him to crack the lineup. Would he play for Dallas? Florida? Oilers? Eventually his body, mind, and game will mature to the point where coupled with his talent it will be untenable to hold him down.

Otto looks good in camp he's a tenacious forechecking LW with speed and a lot of skill. I think he could hold down a 3rd line spot now but as Army said the Blues are ready to win and the
team has veteran guys under contract. There are probably a half dozen teams that would start Dvo, Stenberg, Kaskimaki now but having a loaded line up and being able to let the kids simmer in Springfield is a great position to be in.

There is clearly a spot on the 3rd line up for grabs. If Dvo isn't a better option as a 3rd line wing than Sundqvist, Bjugstad, Texier and Joseph, then I'd start having concerns he's ever going to handle 2C. His offensive upside blows away all 4 of them and he's supposed to be a defensively sound C so he sure as heck should be able to handle the wing. The only thing you can point to is he might not be as physical as some of those guys and he doesn't have NHL experience. Well only one way to fix the experience issue and that's to play him. Team needs to roll 3 lines that have the ability to score and Dvo gets us there while still be good defensively. Hope he has a good camp and we look towards building to the future and not plugging in a vet that is more suited to the 4th line.
