Verlander 2026
Verlander seems like the type of pitcher we will chase to bolster our staff next year. Wild card in terms of if he could be a front end or back end starter, on short term deal that can be flipped at the deadline for more prospects if everything goes right in the first half and we remain in rebuild mode, and worst case he gets to chase 300 wins and is a big name to help BDW chase attendance numbers.
What other pitcher in that vein could we be targeting this winter?

The Cardinals will not be talking to nor signing Verlander.Olemiss540 wrote: ↑18 Sep 2025 06:47 am Verlander seems like the type of pitcher we will chase to bolster our staff next year. Re: Verlander 2026
I'm very happy to see JV rebound to have a decent season.
But no, he's not chasing 300. He's a LONG way away from that.
I wouldn't mind signing JV to a one year deal. I would prefer Max Scherzer.
I do think one of these signings could make sense, if they're under 10mil.

Re: Verlander 2026
Verlander has given up just 3 ER in his last 31 IP. He will also be 43 and has thrown 100+ innings just twice since 2020. I suspect he will draw enough interest from contenders to avoid considering the Cards. If they do sign a FA starter expect another Kyle Gibson type.

Maybe a Detroit reunion.Mort Gage wrote: ↑18 Sep 2025 08:23 am Verlander has given up just 3 ER in his last 31 IP. He will also be 43 and has thrown 100+ innings just twice since 2020. Sorry to break it to you, nobody wants to join the train wreck known as the 2026 Cardinals.

I'd love to see him return there twenty years after his ROY award.ecleme22 wrote: ↑18 Sep 2025 08:24 amMaybe a Detroit reunion.Mort Gage wrote: ↑18 Sep 2025 08:23 am Verlander has given up just 3 ER in his last 31 IP. He would probably want to go to some place he can win.Olemiss540 wrote: ↑18 Sep 2025 06:47 am Verlander seems like the type of pitcher we will chase to bolster our staff next year. Re: Verlander 2026
Our type of team is exactly who fills open rotation slots with over the hill big name pitchers looking to hit milestones. Helps fill seats, 1 year deal means you can use your immediate financial flexibility to fill a role without impacting long term plans, and a chance to buy more prospects if they do good by trading them off....
