Re: Mikolas
I will repeat that Mozeliak handing Mikolas an extension would not surprise me. Nor would it shock me if he gave Marmol another extension before leaving the job.
For those who will argue that Bloom won't allow it, remember these two details.
1. Bloom isn't POBO yet.
2. DeWitt makes final decision on any conflicting issues between Mo and Bloom. DeWitt may side with Mo. Especially if Mikolas extension is cheap.

Crikey. It has. Unless you don't count 2020 when he didn't pitch.
Re: Mikolas
For over 100 reasons I do not want to sign him. However if they do cheaply and plan to slot him as a 5 or bullpen and there is not a ready option internally, I can live with it.
Bottom line you need arms. If he is cheap you can always DFA him or trade him for a hot bottle of pop.

This is Dollar Store mentality. You get what you pay for. Let him be the Pirates' problem.Jatalk wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 12:42 pm For over 100 reasons I do not want to sign him. Re: Mikolas
The point is they'll probably have to pay for at least 1 starter, and it'll be a back-end type. So it's not totally illogical that it would be known-quantity Mikolas if he accepts a massive pay cut ($7-10M).icon wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 12:56 pmThis is Dollar Store mentality. Re: Mikolas
For those wanting to bring him back, even at a reduced price let me re-post:
He's been a BUM for three years (96 GS: 4.97 ERA)
Bloom can find a dozen pitchers for under $2M who are better than that!
NO and h e l l no to bringing this clown back.
GOOD RIDDANCE

Re: Mikolas
The cardinals have a lot of questions with their rotation next season MM isn’t the answer to any of them

And again, he has the stench of Mozeliak all over him. Time to hold the nose and flush.rockondlouie wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 14:03 pm For those wanting to bring him back, even at a reduced price let me re-post:

rockondlouie got it right repeatedly.
Good riddance after 8 mostly awful years, his contract years excluded.
Better crapshoot SP for less is always readily available.

Re: Mikolas
His numbers this year as of this moment are little different than Kyle Gibson when we signed him for 2024. So, clearly a case could be made for him as a known quantity serviceable starter if priced reasonably enough. You hit on the problem with Bloom considering such an offer.icon wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 15:59 pmAnd again, he has the stench of Mozeliak all over him. Some of his attitude and antics are peak Mo-esque. They are a turnoff to fans too. You are trying to instill a new culture of winning and trying to attract fans back. Bringing back a peak Mo type player does little to advance either aim.
If he gets another contract as a cost controlled attempt at a respectable 5th starter, it needs to be on a new team, where his baggage as a Cardinal isn't as obvious or public. In other words, a fresh start with a clubhouse or fan base thst hasn't completely soured on him.

Re: Mikolas
Much of the blame is on Mozaliek. Some players seem to play better when the pressure is on. Mikolas was doing what most players would do. Push for the most profitable contract he could, even if there was a strong case he really hadn't earned it.OregonRedbird wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 17:28 pm rockondlouie got it right repeatedly.

However, his excuses and ill-timed comments showed a complete tone-deafness that also characterized Mo.
Mo showed poor judgment in rushing his extensions. Especially the 2nd one even after having a poor experience with rhe 1st one. But, with more humility and ownership of his efforts, Mikolas is just a Mo mistake. Fedde was what he was. He didnt make excuses nor did he run off at the mouth. Nobody faults Fedde, but fault Mo for holding him too long. If Fedde got his sh*t together and was given another chance here, fans might be skeptical and unimpressed with management, but most fans would have no issue pulling for him. He is not beloved, but fans have no ill will towards him. Fans view Mikolas differently. Most just want him gone and would view bringing him back as the slap in the face to paying fans. We are done with excuses and antics.
