McGreevy's spot amongst starters -- surprising stats
He's now first in ERA and WHIP among the five starters. Libby is 2nd in ERA (4.30) and Sonny is 2nd in WHIP (1.22).
He's better than league average in ERA (4.08 to 4.17) and WHIP (1.20 to 1.29)
He's only struck out 53 in 86 IP, but he's only walked 15.

Great post. I hope McGreevy is the ace of next years staff. We need to keep Sonny and sign a high profile FA pitcher, and acquire+ an innings eater. Hopefully Matthews is ready to join the staff next year. It would be great if Wei-Lin Chen and Liam Doyle have a monster spring training and make the big club.

+1 on McGreevy, but not many staff aces have such poor K-rates.hockey jedi wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 21:53 pm Great post. I hope McGreevy is the ace of next years staff. Clearly need at least one FA starter.
Mathews has to get control before he can come north.
Doyle would be mid-season if he comes up at all next year. He has to work on his secondary stuff.
Wei-Lin Chen has only had four starts at AA and has been bombed (10 ER in 9.2 IP). He's another longer-term work-in-progress.
Maybe try Leahy as SP.

Chen-Wei Lin
and please no, to Leahy

Lin needs a full, healthy year next year. I have high hopes.

The young prospects won’t be able to go deep into the season next year so you really can’t count on them other than to develop and gain experience. Unless significant additions from the outside are made the team has no chance to be any better next year. Probably shooting for 2027 as the year to contend as young hitters advance to the big leagues.

Re: McGreevy's spot amongst starters -- surprising stats
I think Mathews could make an impact next year right from the start of the season.
Yes, he's struggling with control at Memphis but he was fine at AA and below.
It seems reasonable and likely that he could get it back very quickly since it hasn't been a lifelong problem.
Regaining control of the walks is his last obstacle. He's got an offseason to figure it out.

Lefty starter parade is coming
Liberatore
Mathews
Doyle
Henderson
Mautz?
Hanson?
Hjerpe?
On the righty side it is
McGreevy
Pallante
Roby
Lin
Hence
Rincon
Winquest
They dont' seem to take Curtis Taylor seriously even though he did nothing but win in Memphis.

I'll take a beating for this comment but a team that has some sense of direction and 85+ wins with a touch of excitement around would be a very solid step.swatski wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 22:27 pm The young prospects won’t be able to go deep into the season next year so you really can’t count on them other than to develop and gain experience. A team in position to add at the TD, Get a rental like Cole was in his peak see what happens.

Taylor is 30 years old in AAA. There’s nothing about him that should induce optimism for major league performance.cardstatman wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 23:00 pm Lefty starter parade is coming

This team is not acquiring any contracts this off season of length or high cost. You can bet on it. They are ready to see mediocre fan turn out for 2026 knowing that the 2027 lockout is going to turn off fans anyway. It is a lose-lose and they know this. 2026 will be the loss of some familiar faces to then acquire guys of like talent and disappointment but with potential to be something. They will pluck from the minors also guys like Taylor to put up or hit the road. People need to understand that the lockout will not just hurt owner incomes. Players lose a year of development and production. For guys of age and needing to show their worth this can be hugely detrimental. It all depends on if the owners are ready to fight for a salary cap of some kind and not tax penalties. If they truly fight for a limited annual earnings figure, the lockout could last the whole season. There is no advantage to acquire contracts on a team going into a rebuild and a lockout season. People on this forum need to see the light and stop convincing themselves they will acquire some contracts to try to win. You could see some guys pushed along that maybe are not quite there stamina wise if nothing else to push them to do better. In a throw away season getting potential starters 120+ innings in MLB could be a good thing. They are up for half the season and then next guy up.An Old Friend wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 23:32 pmTaylor is 30 years old in AAA. He will never be a big strikeout guy, i think if all goes perfectly he could be a high end ground ball guy like Jake Westbrook was with the IndiansClassicO wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 21:59 pm+1 on McGreevy, but not many staff aces have such poor K-rates.hockey jedi wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 21:53 pm Great post. Then; we better continue a good to great infield defense.Adam2 wrote: ↑17 Sep 2025 05:59 amHe will never be a big strikeout guy, i think if all goes perfectly he could be a high end ground ball guy like Jake Westbrook was with the IndiansClassicO wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 21:59 pm+1 on McGreevy, but not many staff aces have such poor K-rates.hockey jedi wrote: ↑16 Sep 2025 21:53 pm Great post. He hasn't been in the rotation to get the mandatory 90 pitches per game treatment the Pallante got. If he is in the rotation in April and Marmol is still manager we'll see what his numbers look like.

they did hit him hard early, but at people.
does he have an out pitch??
i've been all about letting all of these young pitchers come up an throw, we know what the other turds can do
