He was a great actor as well as being a throwback movie star, though he never had the height of such. What is everybody's favorite movie he was in? There are so many. I think my favorite was The Sting, although he was really good in Three Days of the Condor, and I love that movie.

Redford should be to movies what Pujols was to baseball. So many good to great movies. I’ll start with Butch Cassidy.

I’d go with Jeremiah Johnson, where he hardly says 10 words. Great acting, though.

I didn't like that movie at first. Too smarmy, I thought. But it's grown on me over the years. Here's to Wonderboy, and old War Memorial Stadium.

R I P!! One of the greats. Loved him in The Sting. An all time favorite. Another favorite of mine that he was in was The Horse Whisperer. Underrated IMO.

I love The Natural but agree, Brummer, that some of it seemed over the top. I mean, did he really have to break something every time he hit a homer? Then I read that the intent was to depict Roy Hobbes as a legend remembered, so that in retrospect his achievements were larger than life.

I did learn from that movie that fielders used to leave their small mitts on the field between innings. Crazy.

Beyond The Natural, my favorite Redford movies include Butch Cassidy and The Sting. He was a great comedic actor as in The Hot Rock, Legal Eagles , and Sneakers.

Definitely one of the best ever IMO. Besides Hoosiers and Brian's Song, The Natural is my favorites sports movie. And to all that haven't seen The Sting you should stream it immediately. Amazing cast ensemble.

Isn't that amazing? I recall seeing that on an old Cardinals reel. My vague memory is that of Marty Marion dropping his glove behind the shortstop position and trotting into the dugout. If it were Marty Marion then that practice stretched into the 1940s. Could have been Thevenow or someone else earlier, though.
