I'll miss baseball when it's over. Looking forward to February when pitchers and catchers report. No looking forward to the winter between now and then.
The Mets have literally been trying to give the 3rd wild card spot to 1 of 4 teams and nobody wants it
Lost 8 straight. The Giants who sold at the deadline now has the last playoff spot. 84 wins might get it. Shame that the team couldn’t have played better.
Makes one wonder if they regret some of their decisions now, seeing how things are shaping out. Maybe they wish they would have at least tried ?
The Giants or Cardinals regret their decisions? What decisions are the cardinals regretting that happened in season?
I was referring to how they sold off relief pitching at the trade deadline, but didn’t do anything to strengthen the 2025 roster. There were some obvious holes in the lineup and starting pitching and they just ignored those. One good hitter and one good starter might have made a difference in the few games we are back in the wild card. Plus the message that was sent to the team, you know, the one that said, we aren’t really trying to win? Also not bringing up JJ when Donovan and Arenado went down with injuries.
If the Cardinals would have just tried to” a little “ they’d probably be in the wild card.

Wasting prospects to add to this team at the deadline would have been a massive mistake. They should have traded Romero and some of the bats.

Pittsburgh Pirates model for success.
The Pirates trade away good young players so they don't have to pay them. When have the Cardinals done this?

Nothing in my comment said they should follow the Pirates model.

I believe that was the rationale for trading Helsley was it not? Adolis Garcia was traded for cash considerations. He hit 39 HR 107 RBI for 2023 world series champions. Not even the Pirates would dump in late July with the team in playoff contention.

No, it wasn't.
Helsley is a pending free agent. Couldn't afford to re-sign him.

No, signing him makes no sense when you're rebuilding.

This will be the first off season in awhile that I won’t be disappointed!
I’ve always thought, before, that they would make moves to improve the team ,
I have no illusions this time that will do so. I fully expect them to get rid of players and add nothing in return that will improve the 2026 team.
Interesting. I expect this to be the most exciting offseason in years. Last offseason, MO made one move, signing Maton. This year, we have a new GM, we had a runway season where the team should have been able to make up their mind regarding the future with the team of 6-8 players. I expect them to trade 3-5 players off the ML roster and several minor league prospects to reshape the entire organization. I can't remember an offseason where they traded that many players off the ML roster since maybe Whitey Herzog in 1982.
If the major concern is they will do nothing to improve the 2026 team over the 2025 team. I think they will try. The way the season is playing out, they could have made the playoffs this year had they went out and added a SP this offseason. The way the bullpen has played out after the trade deadline, it has been mostly OK. So, add a SP or two via trade, add a couple bullpen pieces like Maton at a reasonable cost and add Wetherholdt to the team and the team should be better in 2026. If Baez mashes in Memphis and is ready by July, the team could be a whole lot better. I find that exciting.
