We need a lock down ace. Gilbert types. Then add some three four and fives.

They are not going to get a "lock down ace" by a trade or a signing. They have to develop one. Leahy seems to know how to pitch, thus I believe he can become a starter. Everyone starts somewhere and many good pitchers started as relievers.

Nice props. If we don’t get, develop, or steal an Ace, we will be a flightless bird. Leahy may know how to pitch; but he’s too far removed from starting to give you durable innings. He may be a stud, but I’m betting he’s limited to about 5 ish innings.

Leahy has been getting more rest between appearances and when he does pitch, he has been pitching multiply innings. I believe he has been handled correctly and expect him to be a starter next season.

He hasn’t been a starter since AA 3 years ago I don’t know how that’s handled correctly if they view him as a starter and he wasn’t good at AA as a starter

If so you can expect him to hit a wall and be fatigued around the all star break like liberatore did

The cardinals don’t have many other choices. So, my guess is he’s one of the five. Not ideal but I expect the 2026 approach to be very similar to this season. Hopeful, they spend a ton of money they’ll have capacity for once the new cba is in place

Bloom had better learn how to acquire MLB proven starters from outside the org, because if we insist on home growing everything, we will never have enough choices, or much of any good options.

He will if ownership gives him the resources to do so. I don't see that happening this offseason, however. I suspect that if SG will waive his NTC, the Cardinals will need to find three new rotation pieces next season along with a couple long relief/spot starters. They'll have Liberatore and McGreevey penciled in. I think they'll give Leahy an opportunity. They'll need to find someone who can replace him in the bullpen and two other starters from someplace. Maybe Leahy and Pallante swap places. That would be one less pitcher the Cardinals need to find from outside the current big league roster.
And let me be clear, I'm not advocating for these moves. Rather, I'm being realistic with my expectations as to what the Cardinals are currently willing to do.

Gilbert led the league in IP in 2024.
Today that means 6.3 IP/GS.
Different game my friend. Top 10 guy in 2024, Cease, who will
be available is at 5.7.
Cards current leader Gray is at 5.6

The last 300 inning pitcher was Carlton in 1980, I think he gave about 8 IP/g
