I doubt he makes Canada’s WJC team if I’m being honest.
Horse hockey!
Why should he make the team? Canada is projected to absolutely loaded this season. And Carbonneau wasn’t very impressive at all at the WJSS. He’s going to have to have a really strong start to the season and good December camp to get back into consideration.
Here are 4 roster projections. None include Carbonneau.

"Hey Dvo, we're thinking about starting this 18 year old over you"
"Hey Aleksentari, even though I said your name before, you just haven't shown enough yet"
Now that's some good motivation
It's a competitive profession. If Carbonneau gets just a 1-9 game look that is no reflection on DD, who is primarily training to be a center in the NHL. If they go head-to-head for [say] 3RW then let the best (most ready) man win. If the loser of that competition folds tent then they weren't NHL material.
Well sure, but he should have no business beating out the two players mentioned for a 3RW spot, much less the pros already on the roster making millions of dollars. If he legitimately does that, then heck yeah! But also, not a good look for the other prospects ahead of him. IMO, Dvo should be a productive full-time member of the team by next season. By 2027 he should be 2C.
Declaratives like "no business" aren't really appropriate. We really do not KNOW what the Blues have in Carbonneau, we can only speculate. He might be the next Brett Hull or he might be a bust. Most likely he gets sent out, possibly after a taste of NHL hockey, but we just don't know. Carbonneau and DD are two different players seeking two different positions and roles, I don't see any rationale in comparing them unless they truly go head-to-head.
I said "should have no business" - if he proves otherwise, then, as per my previous response: "heck yeah!"
Brett Hull was 22 playing in the AHL when he got his first cup of tea in the NHL and 23 before a full season. Carbonneau is 18 and drafted a few months ago. I sincerely hope he blows everyone away in camp and never looks back, but from a speculative standpoint, the odds are against him.
Most on here have speculated that Dvo would start at 3RW just like Thomas did when he was 19. Then you have the 21 year old winger I also mentioned, Kaskimaki, whose name was stated by Army in the end of the year presser and who has spent the last several years amassing 150+ games in pro leagues...

Sounds like we're on the same page, let them compete.
I've wondered if DD was North American if he would have arrived in the NHL earlier. He's had more cultural acclimation challenges than Thomas did. He just needs to be ready when the Blues need him.
Saw this in JR’s article this morning. Confirms Susuyev will be in camp. I’d assume that means he’s most likely bound for Springfield.
Nikita Susuev, a seventh-round draft pick in 2023, was added to the roster and will be on the ice after signing a three-year, entry-level contract Wednesday.

Its possible the Blues see intangibles in Carbonneau that could allow him to play sooner. Hes big, he'll check, hit he can skate. Again total longshot for Carbonneau to keep a roster spot but i dont think its a slight to DD if Carbonneau were to stick. They are two completely different players and besides im fairly certain DD will see a lot of NHL games this year

Interesting guy, something like 8 goals in 55 KHL games as a younger player, was thought to maybe go in the 4th ish round of the draft. Sounds like he needs to develop a two way game but the Blues may be able to coach him up in Springfield. You can never have enough RW scoring threats in your system

Honestly, surprised it took this long for Carbonneau to sign. Once he committed to stick with the Blandville-Boyband Armada, I expected him to sign pretty soon thereafter.
The interesting one imo is Susuyev. Russia doesn’t have a transfer agreement so that makes me wonder if Susuyev will be coming over immediately. That said, I don’t see a ton of potential in him.
I could be wrong, but given the timing of the Susuyev signing, it feels like a reactionary move to the Dean news. A body to replace him in Springfield and possibly the prospect tournament.

Are you insinuating this contract was thrown together quickly and at the last minute when the news of Dean came out? I would think talks of a contract with a player and his agent starts well before it's ever signed. Not saying the news of Dean had zero impact on the contract, but seems highly unlikely it's a direct result of Dean's situation.

Agreed. Highly unlikely they’re related IMO.
More likely is Susuyev felt jerked around last season and didn’t want to do that again so they pivoted and figured he’d try his hand with N.A. hockey. He played for 5 different teams in 3 different leagues last season. Pretty much impossible to gain any consistency or chemistry being moved around like that.
Also, the T-birds were already overflowing with forwards. It’s not like they desperately need this kid. And while Susuyev might now get added to the prospect roster (assuming he’s in the country and has his visa details sorted out already), no team is going to commit to a player with a 3-year contract with the ability to add him to a relatively meaningless prospect roster as one of the main reasons to do it.

ELC's are pretty basic. Performance bonus's are probably the biggest hurdle, but a player of Susuyev's caliber, they couldn't have been too difficult to figure out. Maybe the timing is coincidence, but a 7th rounder right before camp opens, then suddenly added to camp roster. He wasn't on the initial roster before the Dean news.

Understood, and I appreciate your viewpoint. It's good to have intelligent back and forth hockey discussions, even if our opinions differ. It's very refreshing and why I come to this board.

+1.
IMO Army doesn't just throw around ELC's to fill holes, as the quote from Hunt for Red October always applies to Doug and contracts, "Russians (Doug) don't take a dump without a plan". The Org see's something in this kid, and as you point out, if he's willing to come over and prove it, they'll give him a contract.
Why do people think that Carbonneau is going to be the one player from the 2025 draft class that plays in the NHL this season? He's on the Blues....not some bottom dweller team that needs bodies. Maybe wait to see how he plays against NHL prospects first...?

Wishful thinking and "boy, what if" type stuff, it's what fans do.
