If Girardi were the 2025 Cardinals manager
...and had a 72-75 record compared to the Pythagoreanan 69-78, and doing it with a FO that divested in the team last offseason, Mr. Girardi would be so celebrated on Cards Talk.
"Just give'em a good roster to work with!"
I want Bloom to change managers in 2026. I think we need a fresh approach. But unlike many CTers, I don't think 99% of the issues on the 2025 team are a result of Marmol's mismanagement.

I agree, but it is all a matter of culture and attitude. I want a manager who instills a winning attitude, strong fundamental play, etc.. I don't want a guy who jokes with the team when they are down 10 runs....ecleme22 wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 09:37 am ...and had a 72-75 record compared to the Pythagoreanan 69-78, and doing it with a FO that divested in the team last offseason, Mr. Girardi would be so celebrated on Cards Talk.

Re: If Girardi were the 2025 Cardinals manager
I see Marmol laughing a lot. I also see many poor managerial decisions, and not a winning attitude. I am well aware he will most likely be the manager next season and that the poor roster construction and complete lack of starting pitching are the main reasons for the team's lack of success. I do however, think a better manager would set a better direction for the team. You are free to disagree.ecleme22 wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 09:47 amSo you saw Marmol laughing in the dugout one time. Re: If Girardi were the 2025 Cardinals manager
Sooner or later, any sports team acquires the characteristics of its manager and field coaching staff. Whether they “out performed” expectations or not at 3 games under .500 is really not the issue. Despite occasional exhibitions of fire, this team lacks a purpose and togetherness, keeps drifting, does stupid things on the field without any accountability.
I don’t see Marmol as the manager to turn this ream around, long term.
A new, field manager like Girardi would provide many of those things. Now, he may still produce a 3-game under record, but it’d be a more exciting team, giving hope for the future, and could draw concerns from any opponent they meet.
Managers come and go, and many have been let go for lesser reasons than Marmol has.

Yep, they will have to have a new manager before they rewrite the culture they had this year and last where winning wasn't important. Marmol is not going to be the one to walk in the clubhouse and clap his hands and say alright boys it's time. The Nard wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 10:02 am Sooner or later, any sports team acquires the characteristics of its manager and field coaching staff. Re: If Girardi were the 2025 Cardinals manager
People are going to say the same [shirt] no matter who is manager. Some will say we need the "experienced" manager. Some will say we need the "modern" manager. Some will say we need a "former Cardinal player/TLR way" type manager. And folks will still criticize the manager for the daily lineups and pitching changes, as if they know for sure whether the manager or the front office is responsible for the lineups/pitching changes. And you'll be still here posting whatever the [fork] you post about.ecleme22 wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 10:27 amWho says winning wasn’t important?imadangman wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 10:13 amYep, they will have to have a new manager before they rewrite the culture they had this year and last where winning wasn't important. did you condemn wainwright when he was seen yukking it up on the bench when the club was getting blown out??bccardsfan wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 09:38 amI agree, but it is all a matter of culture and attitude. We *probably* need a new manager. But the problems on this team aren't down to Oli.
Re: If Girardi were the 2025 Cardinals manager
He manages as if he hasn't a care in the world, and has that constant care-less look on his face. And he has instilled a country club atmosphere where costly mistakes are shrugged off. Herrera with 2 game-losing base running gaffes in 1 extra inning last night, and he stayed in the game. And he and Brown dissing Walker for not studying more film, when THEY are in charge and should make film study mandatory if they want him to study more film. He and his coaching staff are terrible.bccardsfan wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 09:52 amI see Marmol laughing a lot. I also see many poor managerial decisions, and not a winning attitude. Re: If Girardi were the 2025 Cardinals manager
Mozeliak explicitly stated that winning wasn't important in explaining why he extended Marmol. He said he didn't want Marmol face any pressure to win. WTAF. BDW Jr. should have fired both of them after that comment.ecleme22 wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 10:27 amWho says winning wasn’t important?imadangman wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 10:13 amYep, they will have to have a new manager before they rewrite the culture they had this year and last where winning wasn't important. Get ready for even smaller "crowds" next year then. Oli certainly is A problem, if not THE problem. He needs to go.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 11:56 amI'm pretty much on board with this.ecleme22 wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 09:37 am ...and had a 72-75 record compared to the Pythagoreanan 69-78, and doing it with a FO that divested in the team last offseason, Mr. Girardi would be so celebrated on Cards Talk.

How about Marmol’s boss who said “I don’t want him to feel pressure to win.”

Yes. And also when he decided it would be cool to hit, and the same useless manager thought that was a good idea.45s wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 10:44 amdid you condemn wainwright when he was seen yukking it up on the bench when the club was getting blown out??bccardsfan wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 09:38 amI agree, but it is all a matter of culture and attitude.
