Exactly. It's the Mo stank. Gotta scrub it off everything.

KeeptheRamsinSTL wrote: 11 Sep 2025 08:45 am I think it would be a HUGE mistake for DeWitt to keep Marmol for another year. I understand that DeWitt has to pay Marmol whether he manages the Cardinals next year or not. I think it would cost DeWitt more money to keep Oli than to let him go. DeWitt has lost a large portion of the fan base. I believe that DeWitt would be better off bringing in a new manager that would give hope to the fans. In my opinion this is one of the first steps to getting people to return to Busch Stadium.
I agree with this.

Marmol makes peanuts. Fire him immediately after the season ends.

Send a message to the players that lousy at-bats, stupid base running, and “not feeling pressure to win” are not going to be tolerated anymore.

Marmol is not THE problem, that title goes to the eternally clueless Mozeliak.

But Marmol is not the solution either.

Can him, bring in an experienced, playoff-successful manager with zero ties to this failed organization and begin the healing.

Keeping Marmol serves absolutely zero purpose other than saving DeWitt Jr the cost of hiring an actual successful manager.

We're quoting Buster Olney talking out of his (donkey) again?

Apparently Katie Woo and Derek Goold have also reported that Marmol will not be canned.

I agree.
May they rethink this decision and do the correct thing.
Based on their past ways, it doesn't lead me to think they will.
I agree with your approach, but I'm afraid that BDW's aversion to eating contracts will guide the decision. If Bill is paying Oli, Oli will manage the team.

Sad... this org needs a complete reset and Marmol is not part of the solution moving forward.

I told everybody this was coming a month ago.

They don’t care about fan backlash

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that way. And would be unfortunate. But it's important to differentiate that it won't be because Buster Olney said it.

Normally a new POBO would want to clean house and install his own people. But this has been one weird POBO transition so I think Marmol returns, too. To his credit he has kept a team with little elite talent afloat.

It really has. This doesn’t surprise me. I wondering if the Dewitt’s lay out Bloom’s clothes for him in the morning.

I'm confident that I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but I think both Matheny and Shildt were fired with a year still left on their contracts.

Bully4you wrote: 11 Sep 2025 08:28 am Hard for me to post today, but this is what was said.

"Current manager: Oliver Marmol. Any change at general manager makes for a climate of change, and Marmol has one year left on his contract at a time when Chaim Bloom is about to take over the Cardinals' front office. But the team has played better than expected this year, and Marmol has had regular communication with Bloom. Given Bloom's deliberate style and the fact that the Cardinals are not expected to spend aggressively this winter, some rival executives believe Bloom will want to work in concert with Marmol before making a decision for 2027 and beyond."
Huh? :?

Oli's staring at his second under .500 season in three years.

He's done a miserable job but sadly it does appear BDWJr is going to keep him in place since he's paying him for 2026. :x
Yes, sadly it will most likely be Marmol in 2026.
Doesn't make me excited for the new year.
Sure looking that way but let's hope not.
Sorry man, I'm a little down today.
Let's hope C. Bloom makes some solid moves over the winter that's gets you excited again! :D

Considering the weakness of this team, Marmol has really improved as a Mgr . The current coaching staff is much better than when he first became Mgr. His in game managing has gotten much better. The player seem to like him which is a plus. Everything seems to point towards Oli returning for at least one more season.

I’ve been saying this for months. Bloom’s management style and philosophy is much aligned with MO’s. If you’re looking for him to hire a Bochy, Counsell, Francona type (or Yadi or Albert), you’re going to be sorely disappointed.

Today’s managers are decision IMPLEMENTERS, not decision MAKERS. They have three jobs: sell the decisions made by the collaborative management committee to the players, implement those decisions and defend them to the media. Marmol has done that and done that well. Rob Thompson isn’t a brilliant manager, he has a deeper more talented team.

Don’t expect much of a different approach with Bloom. We can only hope he can improve the means of that approach.
