Wonder what took so long? I'm sure they all knew it was broken within an hour or so of the incident. When you break your 2nd biggest bone, you want it fixed asap.

Someone needs to explain why Sam Horn had to wait almost two weeks to get surgery.
This makes absolutely no sense.

Probably a lot of swelling and bruising. It's common for surgeons to wait for swelling to abate before doing surgery. This from AI:

Orthopedic surgeons often wait for swelling to subside before performing surgery, particularly for closed fractures and other injuries. While immediate surgery may be necessary in emergency cases, delaying the procedure allows the "soft tissues" (skin, nerves, and vessels) to heal, which reduces the risk of serious complications.

Here is a breakdown of the reasons behind delaying surgery and when immediate surgery is necessary.

Risks of operating amid swelling

Wound healing problems: Swelling can compromise the soft tissues and increase the chance of delayed wound healing, infection, and skin necrosis (death of tissue) after surgery.

Intra-operative bleeding: Significant bleeding can occur if blood vessels in the swollen tissue are damaged.

Technical difficulties: Edema (swelling) distorts the normal anatomy, making it more challenging for a surgeon to perform the procedure accurately.

Anesthetic complications: General anesthesia is riskier for patients with extensive inflammation and other medical issues.

Benefits of waiting for swelling to decrease

Reduces complication rates: Waiting for swelling to go down significantly lowers the risk of post-operative wound complications. A specific sign, the "wrinkle sign," indicates that swelling has resolved enough for surgery to proceed safely.

Improves overall recovery: By allowing the skin and other tissues to recover, the delay helps promote a smoother and more successful recovery.

Provides clearer anatomy: The surgery can be performed with greater precision when the anatomy is no longer obscured by swelling.

Try staying at a Holiday Inn Express next time.

Then people might really believe that you are a doctor

I wonder if the surgery was performed by Mizzou medical staff, Dodger medical staff or private (Horn selected) medical staff.

FWIW, I’m a big Lions fan (please have sympathy for me) and am familiar with Aidan Hutchinson’s injury last year; a broken fibula and tibia of the left leg. He broke those bones in the 3rd quarter against the Cowboys in October and had surgery later that evening to repair the breaks.

Now I’m fully aware the injuries between Horn and Hutch may be quite different but the good news is that Hutchinson appears to be 100% and played a full game last Sunday at a high level.

Hold it. This has been researched on Reddit and CT. Doctors be damned.
