This - what’s the point of continuing to play?

Winn probably wants to gut it out since the team has not been officially eliminated from the playoffs.
I’ll be surprised if he isn’t shut down early in a week or so.

Oh come on.
What could go wrong?

If you watched WInn Monday night, he could not move quickly on defense. It was like he was stuck in mud, because he can't push off that knee. There was a line drive hit 3 feet to his right and he couldn't field it, because the knee is weak and messed up

Yes, you can injure the knee further, one bad step and that ACL could pop.

Why he is playing he beyond belief.

Winn in the article said exactly that .. he said I want to keep playing while we still have a chance at the playoffs . I was thinking the same thing. Once it is apparent that mathematically they don't have a shot , he may elect to stay out.

Also as someone said, he probably wants to finish to be in line for Gold Glove . He has great numbers and probably covets getting that award .

Shut him down? and just give up any hope of bringing Mozeliak a final, triumphant 82-85 win season? Mo is supposed to miss out on the opportunity to spend the rest of his life telling people "well, actually, they had a winning record in 2025, so if they'd only won a few more games they would have made the postseason..."?

With glory so close at hand, I'm sure Winn is willing to take some risks.

He doesn’t need to play another game to win the Gold Glove

He has it won already

Why risk further injury?

I tore mine completely and away from the bone. I was non weight bearing for six weeks. Now 10 weeks later I’d say I’m about 80%.

It’s seems odd to say it can’t be damaged further.

I have about 30 years on him but I’d say that medical advice is fake news.

I know that the Cards medical staff has come into question in the past.
So hopefully....when they say he can’t further injure it they are accurate.

He should be shut down and have it repaired.
I am not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last weekend, and I agree with you. Since he has a slight tear, it seems quite likely it could be torn further by playing. That could only make the surgery more involved and the recovery time longer. There is no good reason for him not to be shut down for the rest of the season.

Here is pertinent INFO from Levo Health:

Will Walking on a Torn Meniscus Make It Worse?
By Levo Health February 20, 2025 Blog, Knee Doctor, Pain Symptoms & Treatment, Sports Injury

Will Walking on a Torn Meniscus Make It Worse
A torn meniscus is one of the most common knee injuries, often caused by twisting motions, sudden stops, or deep bending of the knee. Whether you’ve suffered a tear from sports, exercise, or daily activities, you may be wondering: will walking on a torn meniscus make it worse? The answer is yes; walking on a torn meniscus can make it worse, especially if it causes pain or swelling.

Let’s dive into what happens when you walk on a torn meniscus, when to rest, and what treatment options are available to help you heal.

What Is a Meniscus Tear?
The meniscus is a wedge-shaped piece of cartilage in the knee that cushions and stabilizes the joint. Each knee has two menisci — one on the inner side (medial meniscus) and one on the outer side (lateral meniscus). A tear occurs when this cartilage is damaged, either from an acute injury or gradual wear and tear over time.

Meniscus tears are classified into different types, including:

Minor (Grade 1-2) Tears: Small tears that may cause mild discomfort but allow for normal movement.
Moderate Tears: These can cause pain, swelling, and limited movement, especially when twisting or squatting.
Severe (Grade 3) Tears: Larger tears may cause the knee to lock, catch, or feel unstable, making movement more difficult.
Will Walking on a Torn Meniscus Make It Worse?
The impact of walking on a torn meniscus varies depending on the type and severity of the tear. Here’s what you need to consider:

Mild to Moderate Tears
For small or moderate meniscus tears, walking may still be possible, but excessive walking or prolonged standing could worsen pain and inflammation. If your knee feels stable and you can walk with minimal discomfort, light activity may be okay, but you should avoid excessive strain, twisting, or squatting movements.

Signs That Walking Is Making It Worse
Even if your tear is minor, certain warning signs indicate that walking may be aggravating the injury, including:

Increased pain with movement
Swelling that worsens after activity
A locking or catching sensation in the knee
Feeling like your knee may give out
If you experience any of these symptoms, it’s best to limit activity and seek medical evaluation.

Does anyone believe this? I don't buy it for a second. It seems to me axiomatic that an existing tear can always tear more.

Shut him down and let him start 2026 completely healed.
