Winn to have surgery for meniscus tear

Post by ramfandan »

Masyn Winn has a slight meniscus tear that will require surgery . For several months, the MRI has shown the slight tear and has had follow-up MRI's to make sure the situation isn't worsening. Winn will continue playing with rest days as needed (just like last night he was scratched late for the game ).
The medical staff has assured him he cannot make the situation worse by playing on it. There is a short recuperation time after the procedure and he will be good to go for the 2026 season.

For those who can read this, here is the story

PS My own wife had slight tear as well and she was full healed within a month.

I don't know. In the last few weeks of a lost season, it seems kind of dumb to keep playing him. He's in a lot of pain and it's not like staring the cover off the ball. Is there also a chance that he hurts himself somewhere else by compensating for the knee?

The term "slight meniscus tear" does not align with the advice "can't make it worse by playing on it. Whatever he did to tear it in the first place could happen again and it could get worse.

Maybe he wants to play through it so he can lock up his GG? Although I don't fully trust the medical team, it sounds like playing through it isn't too risky.

The last time I checked, Winn was leading the league in Outs Above Average (OAA). My guess is that he wants to lock up that defensive stat and, as you say, the SS GG.

I have had 3 tears. 2 on my left and 1 on my right.

The first time I got trimmed. The next two I got repaired. He will surely get his repaired. This is something that lingers sometimes, and it is something that potentially could create side-to-side movement issues over time. He is young, though, healthy, and will have the best orthopedics and physical therapists available. He should be fine.

With that said, what is the sense in playing him anymore this season? There is potential to further tear the meniscus. I can't see how they can say there isn't.

I’m hip. Tell me doc. How did I get a slight tear? And then tell me, why I didn’t get a full tear? And then explain again how it won’t tear?

Those are my questions .

When you say it out loud like that, it sounds kinda' silly, doesn't it?

They've known about this for a while? Was this season that important that he couldn't have already gotten this fixed?

Great question. In a prove it season, he wasn’t necessarily under the microscope. He just needed to perform. So in a throw away season, could have shut down.

The fact that he still plays and they say he can’t hurt it must be the reason he’s still active. I’m no doc.

The tear could get worse with strenuous activity.
He should be shut down and have it repaired.
