I don’t think they knew exactly what was wrong with Hence and Roby, other than their arms hurt. It’s a guessing game until something tears.

Roby had the TJ surgery. Did we ever learn what canceled Hence's season, other than Rib Cage issues...again? Did he have elbow surgery, too?

Know/knew? Sadly who knows haha. Reyes was similar with all of his issues.

yeah, I just wish we knew, so we know what to expect....or "expect" anything in 2026 from Hence.

I think you were the one a few weeks back that stated you thought Hence would never make the MLs. I think you are probably right about this. His trade value has to be pretty low at this point. But, I think the Cards should move on from him this winter. 101.1 did a good radio piece on this a few weeks ago about how injury prone players are just that, injury prone. Best to move on while they have some value. On the current Cards team, that would apply in particular to Nootbar and in the minors, Hence, Roby and Hjerpe. Since Roby and Hjerpe had TJ this offseason, I assume they will make a spot for them on the 40 man and that they are the primary reason why Wetherholdt did not get a call up in September because he can be added to the 40 man when they go on the 60 day IL next spring. But, once those two return in 2027, the first sign of injury issues again, the Cards need to move on. Maybe before then...

makes me really sad about Hence....so talented.

If Hjerpe has another issue, I'll blow a gasket. The inmates ran the asylum with his injuries. Allowing him to get Scope surgery on his elbow in 2023 instead of TJ, and "rest" instead of surgery in 2024... He finally got the surgery, won't be ready until mid May 2026 for rehab, not 100% until 2027 (probably)....Anyways, if he's not a completely right after that...I'm done

Of course it is sad. Unfortunately, ML sports is a tough grind that only a few can manage. It takes more than talent to make it. It takes discipline, diet, fitness, mental and physical toughness etc. Sometimes it is impossible to understand why some succeed and others do not. In Hence case, I agree, it is sad. But, it is what it is.

With respect to Hjerpe, I assume these medical decisions were made by him and he resisted getting the surgery. While the failure rate is not high with TJ, it is also not zero either. So, I can understand the resistance, albeit, it appears to have set him back 2 full seasons. If he does come through, the Cards will essentially get his entire career without him ever getting to free agency. So, could be a winner for the Cards and a loser for him...

I have always been of the view if a team offers a pitcher a discounted long term deal, the pitcher should take it every time. To the best of my knowledge, the last SP for a Cardinal that played at least 3 years with the team and did not miss at least 1 full season is Jeff Suppan. If Sonny Gray can get through next year, he would be the second pitcher to do it in 20+ years.

The infielder last played on September 3rd against the Rochester Red Wings. He went an uncharacteristic 0-3 on the night with a strikeout and a walk. His final at-bat came in the seventh inning when he struck out on three straight pitches, another surprising aspect of his absence. Wetherholt was not pulled defensively for the final two innings, and he was a part of a nifty double play in the top of the eighth inning. He was also the final part of a ninth-inning relay play to throw out C.J. Stubbs in the top of the ninth inning.

Hoping it is just an extended rest and nothing more. The Cardinals are known to be quiet regarding injuries . Roby had the surgery and the media did not find out about that for several days. Also had the Hjerpe and Hence injuries that went unannounced .
Hoping he is back in the lineup tonight and all is well.
4 game rest sounds highly unlikely. Smells like an injury. With a high profile prospect like him the fans deserve to know why he is missing. Then again when have they thought the fans were deserving.
Please explain why fans deserve to know anything about the playing status of a AAA player, regardless of profile?
Becasue they are fans that PAY MONEY to support the organization. Fans are CUSTOMERS. Pretty simple.
Paying money entitles you to enter the ballpark and watch the game. There is nothing stated or implied that entitles you to information regarding the health and/or well being of players , especially players not even on an MLB roster.
You must work for the Cardinal organization. Without the fans you don’t exist. They deserve what they want.

Just assuming it's a hammy strain at this point.

He made a really strong relay throw to home plate to nail a runner last week. I wonder if he incurred a shoulder or forearm strain on the throw.

My employment status is nothing to the purpose, neither is how you choose to spend your money. I just find it odd, unreasonable even, that people feel entitled to be informed of the injury history of players not even on an MLB roster. But I suppose that's part and parcel to the entitlement culture in which we live.

Y'all may have heard of these people called journalists whose job it is to go places you and I can't go and ask questions we can't. Maybe if some of them covered the Memphis team they could find out what's up with Wetherholt for us.

Perhaps it is personal and J.J. doesn't want the world to know.

Latest updates indicate that J.J. Wetherholt, top prospect for the St. Louis Cardinals, has been absent from recent Triple-A Memphis Redbirds games. However, reports suggest his absence is likely over and he is expected to return to the lineup at the beginning of next week. This means his next opportunity to play will be on Tuesday at Jacksonville, according to Redbird Rants.

This recent absence appears to be a preventative measure, as some sources indicate he may be receiving extra rest to address the general wear and tear of the regular season and prevent minor issues from becoming more serious injuries. The Cardinals organization has reportedly been quiet regarding the specific nature and severity of injuries to their prospects this season.
This says absolutely nothing new and nothing that was not already discussed in this thread, but on the plus side at least you added an extra 1/2 ton or so of CO2 to the atmostphere!
Just trying to get up to the level it was before humans were here
