Where is JJ Wetherholt ?
St. Louis Cardinals' top prospect JJ Wetherholt has now missed the Memphis Redbirds' last four games for an undisclosed reason.
The infielder last played on September 3rd against the Rochester Red Wings. He went an uncharacteristic 0-3 on the night with a strikeout and a walk. His final at-bat came in the seventh inning when he struck out on three straight pitches, another surprising aspect of his absence. Wetherholt was not pulled defensively for the final two innings, and he was a part of a nifty double play in the top of the eighth inning. He was also the final part of a ninth-inning relay play to throw out C.J. Stubbs in the top of the ninth inning.
Hoping it is just an extended rest and nothing more. The Cardinals are known to be quiet regarding injuries . Roby had the surgery and the media did not find out about that for several days. Also had the Hjerpe and Hence injuries that went unannounced .
Hoping he is back in the lineup tonight and all is well.

4 game rest sounds highly unlikely. Smells like an injury. With a high profile prospect like him the fans deserve to know why he is missing. Then again when have they thought the fans were deserving.ramfandan wrote: ↑09 Sep 2025 08:10 am St. Louis Cardinals' top prospect JJ Wetherholt has now missed the Memphis Redbirds' last four games for an undisclosed reason.

Re: Where is JJ Wetherholt ?
Someone on twitter said it wasn't serious. I'm not sure who though. I believe they said he would be back Tuesday.
Edit: it was Jeff Jones.
From Redbird rants:
Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-[political party] reported recently that Wetherholt's absences are likely over. In a post on Twitter/X, Jones quoted a source saying that there is "nothing to share" regarding Wetherholt's absence and that he'll be back in the lineup at the beginning of next week.
MiLB always takes Mondays off, so Wetherholt's next chance to appear in a game will come on Tuesday at Jacksonville.
In a thread on his post, Jones added that Wetherholt could be getting some extra rest due to wear and tear that presents itself throughout the regular season.

They've never been transparent with minor league injuries, think of Hence and Hjerpe in recent years.Jatalk wrote: ↑09 Sep 2025 08:41 am4 game rest sounds highly unlikely. Smells like an injury. You'd hope they'd be a little more considerate with a top 5 prospect in all of baseball, but imo you shouldn't expect it. Seems like it would be smart to let fans know because it'd at least alleviate the complaints they're getting about not promoting him.
Re: Where is JJ Wetherholt ?
Knowing how the Cardinals downplay injuries, I'm expecting them to announce a celebration of life ceremony.

I asked A.I.:
Latest updates indicate that J.J. Wetherholt, top prospect for the St. Louis Cardinals, has been absent from recent Triple-A Memphis Redbirds games. However, reports suggest his absence is likely over and he is expected to return to the lineup at the beginning of next week. This means his next opportunity to play will be on Tuesday at Jacksonville, according to Redbird Rants.
This recent absence appears to be a preventative measure, as some sources indicate he may be receiving extra rest to address the general wear and tear of the regular season and prevent minor issues from becoming more serious injuries. The Cardinals organization has reportedly been quiet regarding the specific nature and severity of injuries to their prospects this season.

Please explain why fans deserve to know anything about the playing status of a AAA player, regardless of profile?Jatalk wrote: ↑09 Sep 2025 08:41 am4 game rest sounds highly unlikely. This says absolutely nothing new and nothing that was not already discussed in this thread, but on the plus side at least you added an extra 1/2 ton or so of CO2 to the atmostphere!rockondlouie wrote: ↑09 Sep 2025 11:22 am I asked A.I.:

Paying money entitles you to enter the ballpark and watch the game. There is nothing stated or implied that entitles you to information regarding the health and/or well being of players , especially players not even on an MLB roster.Jatalk wrote: ↑09 Sep 2025 12:56 pmBecasue they are fans that PAY MONEY to support the organization.
