Bloom needs to get a #2 type starting pitcher for Donovan
Especially, a cost controlled player with #2 type ability in the near future. Bloom may need to add a prospect in order to pull it off. Would the Cardinals trade within the division? Because the Pirates might just be a trade partner for pitching. I'm not thrilled to trade Donovan. But he may be the type talent that can get that much needed starting pitching help for next season. A #3 or #4 type for Nootbaar could also be a possible option.

Anything would be better than the Tommy Edman for Fedde trade.

"trade Carlson for 2 Front of the rotation starters"
"trade Arenado for 2 Front of the Rotations Starters"
"trade Arenado for 1 Front of the Rotation Starters"
"Trade Helsley for 2 Front of the Rotation Starters"
"Trade Helsley for 1 Front of the Rotation Starters"
"Trade Walker and Gorman for 1 Front of the Rotation Starter"
now we have "Trade Donovan for a #2 Pitcher (which is considered a FOTR), and make the Pirates do it"
------
that's 4 years worth of the same thread, and 10-20 posts on each scenario...
oh and the response or the expanse from the OP was "A savvy GM could do it"

If the Yankees are still interested they might get Will Warren. However they traded for McMahon and have Chisholm for another year so they might not be interested now.
Seattle wanted Donovan prior and might still especially if they miss the playoffs again. They are down on Bryce Miller so he might be available.
Both of these pitchers have potential of being a #2 starter. I previously also posted about going after River Ryan and Chase Hampton both of which also have high upside.

Donovan fetches a #3 at best.

Re: Bloom needs to get a #2 type starting pitcher for Donovan
Donny alone would not bring back a #2 starting pitcher, closer to a solid #3.
Re: Bloom needs to get a #2 type starting pitcher for Donovan
I’m assuming it will be a prospect and I would think one projected as a solid three with number two upside would be about right.
Re: Bloom needs to get a #2 type starting pitcher for Donovan
Jonathan India was traded for Brady Singer, a 3 in every sense of the word.
I assume Donovan could get a #3.
Cardinals have had a history of trading players that take them to arbitration.

India is not a bad comp, but don’t you think the Cardinals will be targeting double and triple a talent more than established starters like Singer was at the time of that trade?
Re: Bloom needs to get a #2 type starting pitcher for Donovan
What is preferable? Trading Donovan for a #2 type starting pitcher ( probably including a prospect). Or keeping Donovan and trading Nootbaar for a #4 type starting pitcher.
Re: Bloom needs to get a #2 type starting pitcher for Donovan
A number 2 is just a borderline ace. And theres no way an opposing team would trade such a pitcher for donovan. 0 chance. This is just delusional. Maybe a rental #2 but no cost co trolled #2 pitchers, borderline aces, are being traded for a slightly above average bat guy just cuz he can play multiple positions.Shady wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 10:14 am Especially, a cost controlled player with #2 type ability in the near future. It depends on the prospect the Cardinals would include in a trade. Maybe one of the fine catching prospects other than Rodriquez.Wattage wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 18:13 pmA number 2 is just a borderline ace.
