Statement From Marmol Applies To All Young Players
Marmol in talking about Walker below is why you cant have so many young players. Most players have their best season in year 1 or 2 and never have as good of a season. Once pitchers figure them out they often regress. I get tired of fans saying these guys are young and could progress. More of them fail to progress than do. To many young guys is a problem. Taking chances wih 1 or 2 is one thing but you cant have a lot of them. Larussa made them earn their playing time and had veteran proven role player bats.
Marmols statement:
“He's young, and when you first get here, it's easy to have success. That's why I love when talking to Yadi [Molina] and Albert [Pujols) and these guys have been around for a while, man, like they'll tell you, getting to the big leagues isn't the hard part as staying at the big league level. Because once these [pitchers] start to figure you out, it's very difficult to continue to flip the script and prove that you can stay.”

Saying it's easy to have success early in the big leagues is more proof that Oliver is an idiot. If it is so easy, why didn't he make it as a player? And why hasn't his young players had more success?
Get this clown out of the dugout. He should be helping Girsch schedule Fredbird events.

Seriously doubt there is a set of criteria that would make the Marmot a competent MLB manager. When MoRan decided to hire and then rehire this mope there could not have been ANY serious discussion about success or winning.
When they open the interplanetary baseball league on Mars Marmot will at least get an interview.

Marmol says so many dumb things off the field there's no way he can be average or above average as a manager. His supporters all say the players like him. I'm not sure that's always a good thing. Respect? Different conversation.

Victor Scott must feel great hearing that
Alec Burleson nods head in agreement
They make statements like this to cover up the first statement about Walker that shouldn't have been public anyway. More finger-pointing PR disaster, like the Contreras and Flaherty stuff. I wonder who the common denominator is.

Marmol's major league stats

Oh wait - he never made it to the majors. In 4 seasons he never got beyond A+ ball.

3 common denominator. Marmol, Mozeliak, DeWitt.imadangman wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 12:29 pm Victor Scott must feel great hearing that

DeWitt doesn't care anymore.
Mozeliak wanted a puppet.
Marmol is the useful idiot.

He's so foolish and incompetent and now trying to cover for himself and his lousy coaches. An Old Friend wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 12:16 pmI don't know what would compel anyone to make this claim, but it is nowhere near true.

Re: Statement From Marmol Applies To All Young Players
It seems like Mozeliak really does consider himself the smartest in the room. Marmol's attitude can only be am extension of that. Marmol doesn't have the resume himself to be able to tout his fist at the players. The players can't possibly all want to pull for them. It must be a culture issue as others state. We can only hope DeWitt silently sees the mess Mo was allowed to create and that his move to Bloom is out of the same spirit that led him to turn to Luhnow in 2003.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 12:45 pm3 common denominator. The Cardinals are a puzzle in search of a solution and I'm not sure Marmol has the knowledge to solve or the credentials to get anybody to listen. I remember Joe Torre saying as a manager he always tried to remember how hard it was to play the game. Torre having played the game at a high level had the knowledge and the credentials to get players to listen.sdaltons wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 12:58 pmYeah wtfAn Old Friend wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 12:16 pmI don't know what would compel anyone to make this claim, but it is nowhere near true.

To reply to this, the team is in a much different place now than during the LaRussa days. They hopefully will get back there. But for the time being they do need to devote the time to the young players and let them filter themselves out. It's actually bad enough to carry a veteran like Arenado because it blocks chances to players you could evaluate. The Cardinals are missing the infrastructure to bring these guys along and develop them. But the goal of 2026 is going to be to continue to figure out what the core pieces are long term.CardsBest wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 11:48 am Marmol in talking about Walker below is why you cant have so many young players. The manager you need for 2026, and the manager you need for 2027-. Is it the same person? Hopefully marmol is neither.

Joe Torre was right! MLB is a very difficult game to play. Hitting a round ball with a round bat is very tough! The best teams have coaches who can reach these young players by the way they communicate. I'm afraid the young Cardinals are done listening to Oli's message, even when its the right message.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 13:05 pmThe Cardinals are a puzzle in search of a solution and I'm not sure Marmol has the knowledge to solve or the credentials to get anybody to listen. It's hard to look at what they have done to Walker and have confidence. I think an untapped resource is McGee who has better MLB stats then the rest of the organization combined. He was on the staff for a couple seasons but as far as I could tell they had him coaching outfield defense using charts.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 13:24 pmJoe Torre was right! I think he means relatively easy compared to maintaining that success at the big-league level. (Obviously making the big leagues isn't easy.)JuanAgosto wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 11:54 am Saying it's easy to have success early in the big leagues is more proof that Oliver is an idiot. It's plain that team management is working hard to motivate Walker et. al. to work.
Looks like the team has a motivation problem. Happens when you draft kids on physical gifts instead of mental ones.
Good luck I guess.
