For all the people wanting Marmol gone

Post by Adam2 »

If you are one of what seems to be the majority of posters here who want Marmol gone, who is your wish list of candidates?

I personally don't care. I want Bloom to install who he likes best. There just needs to be a flushing of this system and you can't do it keeping Oli at the helm.

Canning him is the easiest way to signal to fans that you know that there's a major issue, you hear them and are trying a different path. Just the idea of bringing him back optically looks like, as a team, you like where we're going. If you want any fans in the stadium next year that cannot be the message

The only thing that would be worse than keeping him would be a repeat of Mozeliak’s moronic statement after extending Marmol in early ‘24 - “we don’t want pressure on him to win”.

I doubt if Oliver sniffs another managing job in this lifetime.

Nope. He'll revert to minor league instructing somewhere if he's lucky.

Personnel decisions should not be influenced by ticket sales.

Agree. Not only that for that but because of what arenado said. Players always said Larussa had a winning attitude and created a culture of winning and the team was going to grind and battle. Arenado when the team went 19-8 in may said that the last couple of years the team came to the ballpark hoping something good would happen instead of expecting good things to happen. The last couple of years were after pujols and Molina retired so they took the winning attitude with them and apparently oli isn’t that good at instilling that attitude in the team. So if the cardinals want a manager
That instills winning attitude oli apparently isn’t it

BDWJR will have the final say on whether Oli stays on for 2026 or is fired after seasons end.

Dewitt is involved (and as the owner has the FINAL SAY) on almost EVERY SINGLE major decision, he's a lifetime baseball man and he makes the final call!

If he decides 2026 is yet another "runway/re-build" season (and by all accounts it's going to be), then he may just stick w/Oli (who's under contract for 2026) and let him assist w/developing these young players.

After 2026 when Oli's contract expires, then and likely only then will C. Bloom choose his new Manager.

JMO but I strongly think this is how it's going to play out.

That said I'd love for Bloom to somehow get Kevin Cash out of Tampa! :D

If it's not Albert or Molina then preferably someone with experience of not just managing but winning in the big leagues and worst case scenario a young manager who at least played in the big leagues.

I really like Oll as a person and he seems like a great guy who gets along with his players and typically has their back but he makes a lot of questionable moves with his pitching changes, musical chair lineups, and it's great to be buddies with your players but that doesn't mean you can always get the most out of them, which is ultimately the manager's Main goal.

And most importantly, like other said, if you want fans back in the seats, you have to send a message to them that the status quo is unacceptable, we realize there's a problem and we're doing everything we can to fix it starting right now. Rolling Oli back out there one more year is just going to be a repeat of this year.

100% correct, not a fan of the decision, but that's the way it's strongly trending.

He hasn’t been good at developing players the past couple of seasons I don’t know why he would suddenly get good at it next season

I admit to advocating for moving on from Marmol.
The reason? I believe he is subpar and below average in his decision/game management and the team is on the weak side in fundamentals.
So....you replace him if you feel you CLEARLY have a better replacement. NOT just for the sake of appeasing the fan base by forcing a move!
I have not compiled a list.
I’m sure once the offseason comes we’ll see lots of rumors as to his status and possible replacements.

We have been seeing the reason for three years.
That stated, DeWitt is unlikely to approve his dismissal. Marmol purposefully does not rock the FO boat.

Is baseball a business? Are the Cardinals trying to earn a profit? Then yes, personnel decision should be influenced by ticket sales.

Fans have soured on the Cardinals and I wonder what approval rating Oli has right now.. I guess the question is, why would you keep him? Is he just that good?

I agree on the three years!
The kicker in all this is that we will soon have a new Sheriff in town.
Stay tuned!
