Can’t imagine Bloom would be impressed with Brown going public and criticizing a players work ethic. Weird.

Yea he definitely shouldn’t have done that. But it is interesting to know that maybe it isn’t just the cards screwing up his development but maybe he’s handicapping his own development

Walker should try to work with McGuire in the off season. Mark was 6’5” so he can relate to the issues Walker faces at 6’6”. I think he’s been over coached and is frustrated and confused. But Brown should deal with this privately. Looks like he’s trying to exonerate his coaching efforts and blaming Walker for being uncoachable. Bloom has to assume Brown can’t handle young players and move on from him.

If it is true, and has been going on for quite some time, then he absolutely should say it.

Brant Brown's job is on the line, too. If Walker isn't doing his part, why should Brown be fired for it?

On the other hand, if it is not true, then Brown's job should be on the line.

Interesting idea on working with McGuire. Did pretty well as a hitting coach in general and as you cited, has a similar build and could maybe relate to him better.

He has to try something or his career is over, especially if he truly isn’t putting in the prep work. If that’s the case he won’t turn it around anyway.

He has to try something or his career is over before it began. Not helping himself though if he truly isn’t putting in the prep work. If that’s the case he won’t turn it around anyway.
And more time at AAA isn't necessarily going to give him the skills to prep against MLB pitchers, other than straightening out basic things like what time he's coming to the park to look at footage. We're talking about a swing rebuild and a new approach on preparation. Two things.

From what I read, oli can be heard in the background giggling during this interview? Is that accurate or am I wrong about that?

Good managers and coaches never throw a player under the bus publically.

At some point- it is needed.

Im not claiming to know the sjtuation. But if the player refuses to do the work even when co fronted by coaches and soeakjng to him privately doesnt get through- then at some point- publicly calling the player out and putting more pressure on them that way may be the only way to get through as it creates more pressure for the player to prove to media then that they are doing whats needed.

Would more film even help? He seems to have no idea where the pitch is going even when he's seen the pitcher for several at bats already.

I agree on occasional offenses, like the Tyler O’Neil thing, but if a guy is being a turd and consistently failing and not working to correct, then I don’t have a problem with a coach saying it out loud. They’re being held accountable too and unlike junior high sports, it’s not all about the kids. Oli shouldn’t be in a corner laughing though. Very weasel-like if true.

I don't care about either one. Both should be history after this year.

If Walker gets charged up about this and is sent to AAA for 2026 and told he won't see MLB again until he shows he can prepare for every at bat and dominate AAA, and then he does buckle down and do something different and conquers AAA and returns to MLB as something other than the awful MLB baseball player he has been for almost 3 years now, then Walker will have Brown to thank for saving his career, which is currently in jeopardy.

It does seem to me the Walker often has no idea what the pitcher is trying to do to him. He should have a pretty decent idea of what pitches the pitcher is trying to set up.

It’s also possible they have been banging their heads against the wall trying to get him to do the things he mentioned and he won’t do it so brown decided to go with public with it in a last ditch effort to get him to do it. If it can’t be handled privately try it publicly see if maybe the pressure of people knowing will prompt him to start taking it seriously. Or it could be frustration that he keeps hearing and reading people blaming the cardinals and him for walker not progressing and he’s like we are trying but he’s not doing the most basic thing for hitting and that’s preparation and it boiled over who knows why he did it

Yea it would help if you know what what a pitcher throws and knows what their pitches do he might be able to pick up on things
