Nico hischier
For the sake of a different look in a not so active time. Does anybody think nico wants to reup with the devils? Nico has 2 years left at 7.25m then free agency. The devils do have some talented players on their team also and with the talk of quinn coming to play with his brothers. I was just curious if anyone thought nico might be looking for a change of scenery.

Re: Nico hischier
I highly doubt the Devils want him to go anywhere. He’s a huge part of that team.Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025 09:29 am For the sake of a different look in a not so active time. Re: Nico hischier
I dont think they would want him to. I guess my question is do you think nico believes the devils are built or building a cup winner. They do have 2 great centers but jack is on his 2nd shoulder injury i believe. Timo has numerous years left. Im just bored but nico would look great between holloway and kyrou.bluetunehead wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025 10:14 amI highly doubt the Devils want him to go anywhere. I think he's traded to Vancouver as part of the inevitable Quinn Hughes deal

Re: Nico hischier
If Quinn is serious about only signing with New Jersey then the Canucks won’t be getting a guy like Hischier back IMO. They’ll just wait it out or deal lesser pieces. If Hughes just wants to be closer to his brothers on the East Coast then maybe.TAFKAP wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025 10:42 amI think you're right.billybaseball wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025 10:40 am I think he's traded to Vancouver as part of the inevitable Quinn Hughes deal

Re: Nico hischier
It's very unlikely that New Jersey trades Hischier.
The Devils don't have a lot of depth at forward on their NHL roster right now and don't have many good prospects at forward in their pipeline either.
I know it would be a great story for all 3 of the Hughes brothers to be on the same team, but right now the Devils strength is their blueline.
Trading Hischier would force NJ to trade for another 2C or overpay for one next July 1st.
They really need an impact winger or two right now.
There's a big drop off after Bratt and Meier.
Maybe Vancouver would take a deal for Silayev, Yegorov, and a pick.
They would also have to take on a salary dump (Hamilton) in the deal.
The Nucks could then flip Hamilton for other assets.
Form the Nucks POV they just handed out 13 million per year for their current goalie tandem so that position isn't a critical need right now. Demko comes off the books in 29 which would give Yegorov plenty of time to develop.
What would you do if you were Tom Fitzgerald?
Would you just wait 2 more seasons and sign Quinn on 7-1-27 without giving up assets?
That scenario allows Fitz to trade for forward help from his d-men surplus, but also assumes he is still at the helm in 2 years.
Or, would you move your top 2 prospects + to have Quinn for presumably 2 additional playoff runs?
Trading for Hughes during this coming season isn't going to solve the Devils forward issues though.
Assuming Silayev and Hamilton would be in the deal, the Devils d-men would look like this:
Q. Hughes - B. Pesce
L. Hughes - S. Nemec
J. Siegenthaler - J. Kovacevic
B. Dillon - S. Casey
