NL BA leader

Post by vegascardsfan5890 »

Trea Turner is leads at .301
Freddie Freeman is 2nd at .300

Those are the only NL batters currently hitting .300 or higher

Baseball isnt what it used to be. Its getting harder and harder to watch

The stat heads consider it a meaningless stat. Banning the shift did what?

270 is the new 300. If it’s a problem, I’m sure Manfredo has the answer.

I do miss the Tony Gwynns and Wade Boggs. Not saying that is the only type of hitters but it would be nice having those as well.

I think hitting is getting harder because pitching is getting tougher. I really don’t know how anyone gets a hit with all of the upper 90s to over 100 mph with ridiculous movement. The pitcher who only throws 90 mph is rare and that below 90s fastball is almost nonexistent.

You begin to wonder what the pitching limits are.

It's like 1968 all over again. Yaz led the AL in hitting that year at .301.

Baseball is dying. Football is king and won't be displaced anytime soon, concussions notwithstanding.

I know my attention has refocused almost entirely on football now, college mainly with some NFL to root against teams I hate.

I agree football is my favorite sport but I like baseball in the spring and summer. I wish the Cards were better.

^This.

The average pitcher today is much more difficult for hitters to make contact against. Yes, there was always A Bob Gibson, A Nolan Ryan, A Sandy Koufax, etc., but today the depth of SPs and RPs that record more than 9.0 K/9 is much higher.

# of pitchers with 9.0+ K/9 (min. 50 IP)

2025 - 108
2015 - 82
2005 - 29
1995 - 20
1985 - 7
1975 - 3
1969 - 5
1968 - 3 (before mound was lowered)
1965 - 8 (before mound was lowered)

The advent of the hitting approach to swing hard and try to do as much XBH damage as possible when you do make contact was a reaction to the fact that making any contact was getting harder and harder.

# of batters with .300+ BA (min. 400 PA)

2025 - 8
2015 - 24
2005 - 41
1995 - 52
1985 - 20
1975 - 32
1969 - 21
1968 - 6 (before mound was lowered)
1965 - 13 (before mound was lowered)

Football is hard to watch for me.
Rules have made it pretty unwatchable.
Much rather watch baseball.
Can't even breath on the QB, have to watch how you tackle.
Have you seen the egregious calls on corners in the NFL.
They aren't allowed to even practice hard anymore.
The quality is far lower than it ever has been in this new NFL.
Sports was much more fun to watch when I was a kid.

Fortunately, we still have the NHL to watch. Fast, highly skilled, physical players. And as a bonus, most NHL hockey players are pretty decent humans.
