Arenado, Gray and Contreras have no trade clauses.

What's plan B?

We all know they have ntc. I predict that Arenado will be gone whatever that takes. Contreras i give it 90% chance he agrees to some kind of move. Even if that requires a buyout of his ntc. Gray could still be here 1 more year. But it’s not that bad considering our current starting pitching. 2027 is a team option for Gray.

Please go into detail as to how you force a player to leave who has a no trade clause. Have you heard of the player's union?

Have you heard of releasing a player outright? DFA? Unless he agrees to whatever trade they can work out, it could happen. They aren't getting anything for him. They don't want him. They will pay a huge chunk of his salary to move him. Think Dexter Fowler.

I've heard of it. Arenado makes $27 million next season. Unlikely any team would claim him off waivers and then the Cardinals pay the salary while getting no production. Gray makes $35 million. Same thing.

It's possible a team would pick the remaining $36 million on Contreras over 2 seasons.

If no team picks them up that's $80 million we are paying a player not to play.

Fowler waived his no trade clause.

So will Arenado.

See the other bolded parts. I said Contreras gets traded and Gray stay here 1 more year. That makes Arenado the only real loss. And it's not a loss if he's not worth anything. The DFA is just a threat. He will agree to the trade to avoid that embarrassment. Have a good Labor day!

Realistically, even if you paid down his contract substantially and ignored his list of teams, who are the teams that might be willing to take on Arenado?

Return from Contreras and Gray trades

They are all being paid market value or even have underwater contracts.

I don’t get the desire to trade players for no return just to lower payroll for a billionaire that will not spend equal value on the free agent market.

None of them are really blocking anyone important either.

Owner wants to remove payroll and their window does not match the rebuild timeline and there is a 40mins and 26man roster crunch. 2 players they are able to move. Most have no value

I don’t see where there is a roster crunch. I also don’t care about the owner wanting to remove payroll. He will have to pay most of, if not all, of all 3 contracts even if they trade them.

They have a ton of players that have 5 years in minors and not on 40 man. Eligible for rule 5. Mostly SP. you don’t see 7 if Gorman Contreras Winn Walker Donovan Segesse and Wetherholt and a DH Logjamas a result? Then there is the OF with Donovan Church Nootbar Scott Walker and Burleson. All the players above will be on the team plus I removed 5. Is trade. That is the definition of roster crunch

I really don’t. Barely any of those players are any good. Saggese? Church? Walker? Scott? Why would we make carve out a lineup spot for them?

No way they go that LH heavy. They have said their goal is to create more RH balance. Not less

They are not going to give up on the youth and release them. Sorry that’s the plan hence my approach above. They aren’t changing path. The veteran salaries will be ones to go to create needed room on 40 man
