the worst starting pitching I can remember they are only 1 game under .500 at the start of today's play.
If somebody told me in March the pitching would be this bad I'd predict at least 10 games under .500 at this point with a month left in the season.
As bad as the Cardinals have been

Excellent point. I would suggest that because the big market teams grab the best FA's, the majority of the teams are all around .500. Of course, a couple of teams will be really bad, but overall, most of the teams are just average.

this team would be 20-30 under, 2-3 years ago. but because the league has bottomed out, so many teams who would be really bad, are just below average.
mlb is embarrassing as a sport right now. analytic nerds destroyed it
Re: As bad as the Cardinals have been
If MLB were better, then this team would also be better. Nolan, Walker, Gorman, Noot, Mikolas and others are all part of the sharp drop in production since 2-3 years ago across MLB. If that didn't happen accross MLB then it wouldn't have happened with our players either and we'd be watching an entirely different team.AtillaTheBlue1 wrote: ↑31 Aug 2025 12:08 pmits because mlb is not goodScotchMIrish wrote: ↑31 Aug 2025 11:43 am the worst starting pitching I can remember they are only 1 game under .500 at the start of today's play.

yet those big market teams aren't running away with it either. Only 1 team is over .600, and that's small market MIL.
In 2022 there were 5 teams over .600 and they were all big markets. LAD won 111 and HOU won 106. No one will approach those win totals this year.

At the all star break the Cardinals had the lowest injured payroll in MLB. Currently 16th with most of that being Arenado.AtillaTheBlue1 wrote: ↑31 Aug 2025 12:08 pmits because mlb is not goodScotchMIrish wrote: ↑31 Aug 2025 11:43 am the worst starting pitching I can remember they are only 1 game under .500 at the start of today's play.

I agree with your opinion of analytics. I feel the same way about the DH. It's an attempt to dumb down the game.

MLB needs a legit salary cap like NFL, NBA and NHL. Level the playing field.
