26 draft
Yesterday, the Cardinals jumped up four spots in the next draft lottery number nine. I have a hard time rooting for them to lose, but in the long run it might be best. We need to accumulate talent via the draft since we seem unwilling to spend. The Cubs have tanked twice in the last 15 years and both times they’ve come out much stronger team.
Re: 26 draft
You won't have to root for them to tank it. They will take care of that just by playing. BTW, I won't be accurate on my preseason prediction of 72 wins but I won't be that far off.67Cards wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 13:27 pm Yesterday, the Cardinals jumped up four spots in the next draft lottery number nine. Same...I love when they win, but I'd rather finish Bottom 5 to secure a Top 9 pick in next draft...67Cards wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 13:27 pm Yesterday, the Cardinals jumped up four spots in the next draft lottery number nine. I'm watching the Giants, Marlins, Athletics, Braves, Pirates, Rays, DBack results the rest of the season.
Thankfully, several of those teams won yesterday to offset our Win.....thank you, Giants and DBacks
Re: 26 draft
Question, I thought because we’ve had lottery picks last two years the highest our next pick can be is 11?

Re: 26 draft
There's a thread or two discussing that about a week ago. They go into a lot detail. I'm not smart enough to find them. Basically the Cards are no longer revenue payers so they can pick #1 if we are lucky.
1 game ahead of Tampa for the 8 spot. 2 1/2 from the 7. 3 from the #6 spot, Braves are #5, we are 4 1/2 from them, that would be a very nice spot. Right now we have 1.74% chance at the #1 draft pick, at #5 we would have 8.72% chance.

Well the lottery is a ... lottery. Chance at a high pick. Always good. I ran tankathon 10 times. Got #5 a couple of times. Also hit at #1. But also got #13, #14, and #15.
The extra compensation round pick for being revenue receivers is key. Begins to level draft playing field with the Brewers, Reds, Pirates. They should get that pick at least through 2027 draft.
Re: 26 draft
to avoid the 13,14, 15, we need to crack the Top 6 worst records....we're 9th right now....9th will be 14th or 15th most likely, if we don't win the lottery....we must assume 1-3 teams with better records win the lottery and vault us knocking us back....Seattle and St. Louis did it last time.RunSup wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 18:39 pmWell the lottery is a ... lottery. I wish I were wrong and the Cardinals had an outstanding season. BTW, once I thought I was wrong, but I was wrong.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 15:53 pmSo proud of you.Voldemort wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 12:43 pmYou won't have to root for them to tank it. Re: 26 draft
Right. Once you fall out of the top 9 in the lottery, the 3 teams that are not eligible for the lottery line up. So you immediately drop to the 13th pick.craviduce wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 18:44 pmto avoid the 13,14, 15, we need to crack the Top 6 worst records....we're 9th right now....9th will be 14th or 15th most likely, if we don't win the lottery....we must assume 1-3 teams with better records win the lottery and vault us knocking us back....Seattle and St. Louis did it last time.RunSup wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 18:39 pmWell the lottery is a ... lottery.
