OK. So signing Harper is your answer. Only two problems:
1) You realize that Harper had to agree? Minor point. He said no to the Dodgers and Cubs, but I'm sure you could have convinced him.
2) You had to convince BDW to sign him to the 13-year contract - the largest in MLB history at the time.

And it's a big jump to say that IF they did that, they would not have made the Ozuna trade.

Actually I have included signing Harper on several threads such as these for the last several seasons sorry you missed it.

Third, everyone regrets the Ozuna trade in 2019, but you can't convince us you were outspoken against it at the time. Guess who was the top prospect the Cards gave up for him?

So why would the Phillies at that time have more appeal than the Cardinals speaking of reality?

More seriously, Quinn Mathews could be brought up from Memphis. I think he will be in the 2026 rotation anyway.
They could give Curtis Taylor a look for 5 starts. They have to decide if they want him back in 2026 anyway. He can be removed from the 40-man again if they decide they don't want him for 2026.

They could also go with 2 relievers and throw a bullpen game every time they need a 5th starter.
Believe it or not, Roycroft has recently found his control in Memphis.
Weiss and Racquet and Mosqueda have been pitching okay at Memphis. Weiss and Raquet can be released after the season so it won't hurt their 40-man situation.

In his previous nine starts after tossing seven scoreless innings in Pittsburgh on July 1, Pallante has a 9.80 ERA in 44 2/3 innings.

He definitely has moving parts. Every thrower does. There are so many athletes on this roster with moving parts. Glad their little league manager sees that.

One option would be… ok for every 5th start should that be sa bullpen game. Pitch three relievers 2 innings each, for example , for the first 6 innings. Then finish with your usual backend guys.
With 29 games remaining, they would need to do that just for 5 games.
If this was a decision in June, I would not do that but with 29 games left, if I was a coach at the meeting I would put forward that as an option especially if there is no consensus for one pitcher to replace Pallante.

A bullpen start every 5th day is not realistic. The guys we have are already struggling to cover innings. They need to be less used, not more.

You sure keep tabs on the fixes I can say that even including some direct quotes. Sounds like more will be added after another month or so .
Like with any predictions , if you do enough of them just by luck some will come to fruition. Knew a guy in college dorm years ago who made sports predictions stuff on the Packers almost weekly. Finally after about 20 wrong ones, he hit on one thing the Packers did . He went around boasting that he correctly nailed it. When the guys said , what about the other 19 ones you missed on ? He would not say Boo Oh well !

I see a lot of requests to call people up to take spots. After McGreevy there is next to nothing that is worthy of calling up pitching wise.

Three or four who were looked at as options to fill in are injured. Calling up Matthews would be a massive mistake. He has struggled at Triple A most of the season. He put together two really good games (saw both and was hoping he was turning it anround) and then struggled again. He is not ready and rushing him could be a large setback. I saw Wilkerson mentioned. He isn’t the solution to anything even short-term.


Fixing this is going to take Bloom packaging good young talent for pitching. It’s not going to be Noot that gets it. It’s going to take a package around players like Herrera, Crooks, Winn. Not saying all of them, but those type players.

Mo is leaving this organization at a level of rot not seen since the early 90s.
