Hmmm..... i thought the 40 man was one excuse for not bringing up Wetherholt?

Prieto is one of the guys who has to be put on the 40 man or risk losing to the Rule 5 draft. With Winn having knee trouble, I'm guessing that they 1- want to shut Winn down 2- that they will use the next month to decide between Prieto, Saggesse, Fermin, and Hampson as the future utility player.

Hampson had better not be in the picture after this year.

It’s a “thank you for your service” promotion.

I believe that is all it is. He has done well at Memphis, but with the other 2b/3b the Cardinals have, his future lies with some other club. He makes good contact, has a little pop, does not walk often, and is just OK with the glove. I hope his contribution to the team is positive and impactful.

Because MO has a history of having a zero impact MLB min salary garbage player on the roster at all times.... sad, but quite often true. I guess the argument is that they didn't want to bring a guy like Church up to rot on the bench and not get ABs. Oh wait, when VSII was injured and Church called up, he got a single and a dinger and Oli benched him the next game. Clown show. Be glad when the decks are cleared (hopefully) this off season.

While hope they call up JJW and Crooks at some point, maybe the point in calling up Prieto is just to see if have anything before determining if want to keep him on 40 man next year? Dude does not seem to be anything amazing, but has seemed like he is a solid hitter w/ okay pop for a middle infielder. HIs minors numbers have shown an above average hitter so you never know.

I would read that as a willingness to toss him in the deep end. If he doesn't swim, you cut bait; not something they would consider for JJ or need to since he isn't rule 5 eligible.

Prieto has to be added this offseason to be protected from the rule 5 draft. Wetherholt doesnt and has another year.

Crooks, bernal, rajcic, blaze jordan, and baez are other notables that have to be added to be protected this offseason.

Thats a lot of 40 man spots

Id have preferred we called up crooks over pfieto.

Crooks also has to be added thisnoffseason so it makes no difference 40man wise but middleinfield is already crowded and prieto will just sit on bench.

But pages shouldnt block anyone as he isnt the future so we should have called up crooks and given him some reps.

Prieto might be non-tendered by the offseason anyway. He's not exactly the answer to our positions of greatest need, or an overwhelming talent at a young age.

I think they keep Prieto around. Injuries happen, and despite how crowded the infield was, we ended up back to fermin getting some starts and bejng up here.

Fermin is out of options next year so hes gone. Hampson will also be gone. Prieto i dont think they see as a future answer but he will be a extra guy they can call up for injuries the next 3 years with positional flexibility and roster flexibility.

The guys out of options next year like fermin and baker will be dumped off. Prieto will be a reserve. I dont think they envision him as a piece but just as a reserve with club flexibility.

Let's hope not but those 4 seem to be where the future utility guy will come from. I'd probably rate them Saggesse, Prieto, Fermin, Hampson but I don't know much about their defense.

Baker is already gone. They cut him early August and the Dodgers picked him up. Since then he'(poop) 32 homers, got 93 RBIs and hitting .442 for their AAA team Seriously he is hitting good for them in AAA BA .345 but only 1 homer and 7 RBIs in 55 ABs
