Things fans will go to see
1. A legit WS team. Not WC. (Top 11 in payroll like 06-11)
2. Future HOF superstars in their prime
3. A MVP caliber player
4. A Cy young caliber SP
The Cardinals need to address the holes at the top 4 spots on the roster. 2 MOTO bas and 1-2 TOR SP. this team is stacked with 1-2 tool role players that will fit perfectly around the stars. Waiting to add them will draft out the rebuild and loose more fans. Bloom need to make everyone except Wetherholt and Doyle available along with the $100m ownership took off the books to add difference makers. Players fans want to buy jerseys of. Until then attendance will continue to drop. Am thinking 10-15k per game next season. Under 20k now and they raised prices.

Re: Things fans will go to see
There's two aspects to selling tickets:
1) An entertaining product
2) Fanbase can afford it
You and most of the discourse on this have focused on #1. If FO is not gonna have #1 they could easily address #2 by lowering prices, offering specials, etc.
Dozens of minor league teams around the country sell a ton of tickets without any of those 4 things you listed. It's because it's a cheap and fun way to spend an afternoon or evening.
Imagine if the Cards came out tomorrow and said, "Y'know what, we recognize we haven't provided a great product for our fans the last few years. To make up for it we're going to lower prices 30% for next year." They'd not only sell more tickets for next year, they'd create a lot of good will that might even spill over to the rest of this year.

Re: Things fans will go to see
I actually think we may be seeing the bottom in attendance. Of course there is no way to know for certain. It will help when John
Mozeliak stops talking. When Chaim Bloom starts talking- if he is more open and relatable- if he has some sort of plan- if fans see over
the course of the winter that he takes some tangible steps to make good on the plan, healing will start to take place. The
communication and the messaging can be fixed on day one, and would help SO much. Now, if they re-sign Mikolas, all bets are off.
(For you serious types, that was a joke)

Bloom is a younger version of Mo. I have zero belief he does anything more than improve the farm. That’s a small part of competing in n today’s game. It’s about gettting talent 3 ways draft trade AND FA.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 10:52 am I actually think we may be seeing the bottom in attendance. I'm not anti-wild card. I like the excitement of it. Unless you're the third wild-card, chances are you're a good team that got buried behind a team that's just a world-beater. What I DON'T like is the third "we're clearly the sixth best team and we're in the race by the grace of the seventh and eighth best teams being unable to get out of their own way" wild cards.Youboughtit wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 10:23 am 1. I don't disagree with the ethos of "just get in and see what happens" but I do ABHOR the plan to "just get in and see what happens" when it's used as a way to skimp on important parts of the team. So what does that mean? It means you've got to have at least one, preferably two bats in the line-up that are all-star caliber. It means having an ace that you can count on to win a game, at least two other pitchers you can count on to keep things close. It means having a pretty stout bullpen, and a decent bench.
We have...maybe...one of those things.

I have had free tickets available all season and won’t go because there is none I want to see on the roster. Might go to 1 game next year for Wetherholt3dender wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 10:42 am There's two aspects to selling tickets:

This is a mediocre team at best. At least 4 players away from being a legit WS contender. The Dodgers are just trotting out their B pitchers until the post season. Rotating them on IL to keepStrummer Jones wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 10:57 amI'm not anti-wild card. I like the excitement of it. We're not ready for anything until we get a bonafide ace. Sonny's a fine #2 or a great #3. And don't get me started on the hitting. We don't have one hitter who teams really have to plan for, much less the two we probably need to be legitimate wild-card contenders. I like the bullpen, though we'll need THE dude to close games out. Maybe one of our current guys can grow into that role. Maybe not.
As the crow flies, we're not far from being there. But what people seem to forget is that those relatively few pieces we DEFINITELY need are the most expensive and hard to get pieces. Time will tell if we'll pony up for any of those. I wouldn't hold my breath.
Re: Things fans will go to see
Even for a bad team, a night at the ballpark beats a night doing almost anything else. The problem is, there is no buzz around the team at all. Nothing about this team makes you think "let me get on stub hub and see what tickets are going for tonight." Then when no fans show up, the energy is down which makes it even less tempting to go to a game. We are all busy and going to a game is a reasonably large sacrifice of time and money. They are not giving people enough reasons to make that sacrifice.

That's an overlooked thing. Prices on everything are up. St. Louis always had a fairly far flung base of fans, but once you factor in gas and potentially a hotel room, food, and whatever else....Bob39 wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 11:15 am Even for a bad team, a night at the ballpark beats a night doing almost anything else. I live two hours away, so I have the benefit of being able to do hit and run trips. Others aren't so lucky.

If you can't be good be interesting.
This team is neither.
When is the last time won a without a generational talent?

So clearly that wouldn't work on you, but you're in a pretty privileged position to have free tickets for any game. It'd work on thousands of other fans.Youboughtit wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 10:57 amI have had free tickets available all season and won’t go because there is none I want to see on the roster. Not with a team of average players. $20 to park and $12 beer before food. Tickets are a drop in the blankets of complete cost.3dender wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 11:39 amSo clearly that wouldn't work on you, but you're in a pretty privileged position to have free tickets for any game.
