The whole team looks overmatched ace.
This. Did OP even watch the game the whole team got mowed down.

CT also had way too high of expectations for Church. He's a better-hitting, worse-fielding Siani. The Siani thresholds for offense and defense are at opposite extremes, so Church can still be a pretty good 4th OF.

Exactly. Not like Victor Scott was tearing it up after getting full “runway” all year. Give Church some ABs in MLB . He destroyed Triple A all year. Nothing more to prove there.
+1 he has hit the ball harder in 10 days than Scott did in 2 months last year.

It's dumb to say, after a few games, that Church is better than Scott.

I agree. But I also remember a time when a young player was brought up, they were ready. Way too much on the job training on the Major League level in this era. I just wish one of these guys was a right-handed hitter that could hit with power.

And players just up for their first cup of coffee, usually struggle.

Watch him next spring, then decide.

I'd like to see him get more time.

Chances are once Bloom trades Nootbar Church will make the roster in 2026.

His defense is good and he has a better arm than Scott.

The problem with is way too many left-handed hitters with little power.

He went 0-15 after his call-up, but is 3-9 since. Not any worse than the whole team (3 hits last night). Another game (3 in august) lost because we couldn’t get a runner home from third with less than 2 outs

Amazing how every rookie MUST hit .500 with an OPS of 1200 or he is a bum. BFIB, not by a mile. The Cards talk crowd is now nothing but whiners, complainers and cry babies.

+1

Let it play out this season, give the kids the PA's.

Bloom is taking over soon, hopefully many JAG players will be gone by OD 2026.

Sure.

But the problem isn't necessarily Scott or Church. It's the fact we haven't had a corner OF MOB forever which lessens the load of offense on a good defensive CFer.

That's one of common denominators in this revolving door of CFers in the last decade.

No room for logic like that in these parts

Last night Church and the rest of the team was overmatched. Maybe we should give Church a chance. Shouldn’t be a surprise if a young hitter or pitcher struggles initially at the major league level.

Not all. Keith Hernandez and his can't miss swing got sent down 2? times at least for him to catch on. First mlb in 1974 some at bats and then he sucked at beginning and end of 1975 when they gave him some run.
