I have no idea who he meant to hit, but he 100% knew he was throwing it in the direction of people. Are you really defending this?? At 1:15 he tosses the bat, there is a LOUD gasp from the pitifully small crowd, and he looks at Brown and notices it hit him, then he just doesn't care and continues toward the dugout. The actions were indefensible. To make matters worse, he continues the tirade by throwing more stuff out there.

So you think he meant to hit one of his coaches?
Dude, who cares who he tried to hit?? If he was trying to hit the umpire does that change the outcome? He purposely threw the bat towards a group of people, clearly saw (AND heard) he hit someone, didn't give a flying F, and proceeded to trash the filed like a petulant child.
He tossed the bat toward the umpire with the same intent he tossed gum towards the ump.

Not sure if he had pine tar and the bat toss got away from him.

Some of yall are exhausting. It wasn’t that bad at all.

I also think the very same people would defend Pete Rose and Yadi all day, every day. Just looking for something to whine about.

Perhaps Marmol should have made him go out and pick all that stuff up?

Doesn't matter if he meant to, he still did it, just like a drunk running a red light and hitting a car. What are his rep or something.

Yea I like Contreras he’s probably my favorite cardinal but you don’t throw bats and if you do throw a bat you had better throw it in a direction where there’s zero chance it can hit accidentally hit someone. It was dumb

He did not. It was a toss in the direction of the umpire and others. He did not throw the bat directly at anyone. And there was very little force behind it. Had Brown been paying attention, he doesn't get hit.

That's not defending the action. But I'm not going to go dramatically overboard like you. Geez

No kidding. I had to rewatch it. I thought I missed something. He tossed it back and it didn’t seem intentional.
While being forcibly restrained during a moment of rage, he accidentally threw his bat into a group of people.
Absolutely.
Not intentional at all.
Probably needed more pine tar.
So while being physically restrained (as you say), he still had the ability to throw (your word) his bat and hit his own coach and the umpire. Hard to accomplish. Or maybe your version is embellished.
Was he restrained from trying to get to the umpire after previously bumping him?
Yes
Did he throw his bat which then hit a coach and umpire?
Yes.
Did he also throw a shin guard and attempt to hit an umpire with it?
Yes
Did he throw a bucket onto the field?
Yes.
Facts.
All I do.
Zero bias
Zero embellishment.
Total embellishment. You made it seem like he launched a bat full force with intent to dismember the ump. Good grief, I thought your early posts were going to suggest castration as his punishment. You need to settle down.

While being ‘walked’ to the dugout, he tossed the bat back. You could see he didn’t mean to hit the coach or anyone really. I like how he added that he hit the coach and the umpire now.
Yeah, Willy took two out with that vicious bat throw. Mel seems to have an ax to grind.

It, to me, was a irresponsible and potentially dangerous act. Some say he's a "hothead." I agree with that view. A lot of angles here. I think he deserves a suspension and needs to be held accountable for his actions. I remember when Templeton flipped "the bird" to Cardinal fans back in the day. Whitey immediately traded him for The Wizard soon after it happened. Is WC's act is as agregious as what Templeton did? Not sure but definetely detrimental to the team as a whole.

From my observations of human behavior, I've discerned what I like to call the Law of Production & Adaptation.

-Produce a lot or more than anyone else = people will put up with (bleep) and adapt to your behavior.
-Produce little, less, or negative = no one will deal with your (bleep) and you better adapt your behavior.

Considering he and Burly are the only players with an OPS north of .800, he's still on the positive side, but he's skirting the line much closer than he probably realizes. Of course, guaranteed contracts in MLB and we all know what that means with this org.

So basically my law is meaningless in this situation, but it sure does make me sound cool.

Yadi went after an umpire and bumped him and had to be restrained. People here just want to b*tch about everything.
