A player should be able to control their conduct a little better than what we saw last night.

That’s stupidity, not passion

I hope not. Week 1 of my fantasy playoffs and rosters are locked, can’t afford to have an opening at catcher!

Re: Contreas deserves hefty fine and suspension
Curious what rap sheet of ‘antics’ you speak of?

Re: Contreas deserves hefty fine and suspension
In watching the replays of the incident, it appears to me that when the umpire and Marmol are "speaking", the umpire says to Marmol, "he told me to f off."
This is probably where the "misunderstanding" began.
The umpire's truth is that as Willson was walking back to the dugout, he said "f off" to the umpire. The umpire then tossed him.
Willson's truth is that he never told the umpire to f off.
What ensued after that can be seen by all. Willson obviously lost control and went overboard in his anger.
As far as suspensions, I am not sure you can get suspended for inadvertently hitting your batting coach with a bat you tossed in frustration. He never laid hands on the umpire, never bumped the umpire, and he tossed a bucket of gum. Was he over the top in his anger for a minute? Yes. Does it warrant a suspension? I tend to think no, and if so, maybe just a game or two.

He threw into a large group of people.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑26 Aug 2025 01:42 amHe did not. It was a toss in the direction of the umpire and others. He did not throw the bat directly at anyone. Had Brown been paying attention, he doesn't get hit.Melville wrote: ↑25 Aug 2025 22:22 pmContreras threw it at an umpire.TopofthePerch wrote: ↑25 Aug 2025 22:16 pmWell Victor Robles got ten and he deliberately threw the bat towards the pitcher. So I can't see it being more than that.
Big difference.
He also threw his helmet and a bucket.
That's not defending the action. But I'm not going to go dramatically overboard like you. Geez
Intentionally.
It hit a coach and an umpire.
He threw it at them.
To attempt to claim otherwise simply is not honest.

While being forcibly restrained during a moment of rage, he accidentally threw his bat into a group of people.PadsFS07 wrote: ↑26 Aug 2025 07:25 amJuanAgosto wrote: ↑26 Aug 2025 01:42 am

No kidding. I had to rewatch it. I thought I missed something. He tossed it back and it didn’t seem intentional.
Absolutely.
Not intentional at all.
Probably needed more pine tar.

Contreras screamed "f...off" to the umpire multiple times.

Seeing on CT this morn that WC “threw his bad at the umpire” I was oh no.
I watched it. First off, as you said, he did ‘toss’ it, he didn’t throw it. And yeah, inadvertently hitting BB with it isn’t a good look.
For the latter, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s suspended 1-2 games, just for the simple reason kids are watching. So tossing bats is never good.
But the incident was hardly what CTers make it out to be. He more or less channeled Lou Pinella.

Contreras screamed "f...off" to the umpire multiple times.
After the ejection, he definitely said it loud and proud multiple times. That is not in question.
Re: Contreas deserves hefty fine and suspension
Besides his bat I do admire WC for his fire.
This team is in desperate need of leadership both on the field and in the dugout.
He could partially help fill that void.
There is however a fine line between fire/leadership and becoming a distraction.
Last night crossed the line. Hopefully he chills.

Re: Contreas deserves hefty fine and suspension
While the ump wasn't in danger from his bat throw, he clearly threw it toward the ump as a statement, he just didn't know there was somebody that close behind him. You could see on his face (he threw it before he turned around) that he knew he effed up in that moment.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑26 Aug 2025 08:10 am In watching the replays of the incident, it appears to me that when the umpire and Marmol are "speaking", the umpire says to Marmol, "he told me to f off."

I think it's a suspension not bc it was toward the ump but just bc it was dangerous behavior. Not sure how many games, I can't recall seeing something like that before. Somewhere in the 2-5 range feels right.
Re: Contreas deserves hefty fine and suspension
Just saying Morgan Wallen through a chair off a bar roof and didn't hit anyone. He was criminally prosecuted.
This hothead, tossed his bat point blank at someone, could have caused severe injury. DFA him, Not the Cardinal way.

Re: Contreas deserves hefty fine and suspension
He has serious anger issues.
He has been hit 19 times this year and didn't try to get out of the way on any of them. Stands there like a statute and then goes crazy when hit.
After his last HBP, he slams bat on ground and cracks it, then fake tough guy breaks it over his knee. missed 4 games last week because of it, hurt the team.
He is undisciplined at plate when angry, will chase pitches way out of zone. He will make stupid baserunning plays and fielding plays too when angry.
I would have more respect for him if he were to charge the mound, but he's a fake tough guy, who might get his (bleep) kicked.
Here's the kicker, he said, I don't want to waive my NTC, because I already have a ring (yeah David Ross had to replace your (bleep) because Joe Madden could not trust you).
The team would be better off without him during the rebuild.
