Drove my son to Penn State this weekend to start his sophomore year. We stopped along the way to take in a Pirates game & happened to catch the MLB debut of Bubba Chandler, who pitched very well. Braxton Ashcraft was the starter & looked pretty decent as well. If Chandler works out, Ashcraft keeps throwing strong & Skenes stays healthy, the Cards could be looking up from the bottom of the division.
Also, it was the "Hall of Fame" game & they were inducting new members into the Pirates HOF. Al Oliver was just being inducted. WTH? We caught an interview with him & Bob Gibson's name came up. He mentioned that he was never intimidated by Gibson & hit him pretty well. I was like, "That (bleep)." so I had my son look it up. He hit .342 with a .942 OPS against him. Holy sheet. I realize that most of his ABs were in Gibson's twilight years, but that is still pretty impressive.
