Army is not the GM of your fantasy team, you can hang on to Bolduc. As I pointed out, at Mailloux's age last season Parayko wasn't even in the NHL.Cahokanut wrote: ↑24 Aug 2025 08:31 am [quote="STL fan in MN" post_id=13128483 ti
"In the end, this was a trade for 2 solid 22 year olds who both project as solid secondary players. Not stars but legit NHLers. Bolduc is a bit more proven at the moment but Mailloux plays the much more premium position."
No. It wasn't. One guy had stats much alike most first year, NHL hall of Famers, One guy had a good lawyer.
One would have three NHL players close in on him, if passed the puck on the pp. One guy didn't make the pp, or his team.
The added value of the premium position means little when talking future 1st line winger and the hope of a overpaid 3rd pair, defensive liability.
So how good will Mailloux be?

Come on now. You’re now saying Bolduc projects as a future HOFer or at least 1st liner??

And also once again, almost certainly way underrating Mailloux as well. He very well may be a 3rd pairing defensive liability guy this season. But he’s projected to improve, like pretty much all 22 year olds are projected to do. His career is just getting started. Far far from a finished product.

Lol, HOFer! You gotta love the [shirt] that comes out of peoples mouths
Bolduc -
'24-'25 First 44 GP Oct-Jan 5 goals
'24'-'25 Last 30 GP Feb-Apr 14 goals, 6 PP goals (Monty connects with Bolduc he starts getting #1 unit PP time)
Without those 6 PPGs he had a nothingburger season
Of Bolducs 24 career NHL goals, 14 of them came in a hot stretch for the Blues and Monty in three months.
I think Bolduc is eventually a lock to score 25-30 in the NHL, why? Because the Blues draft and develop well which allows the Blues at times to turn kids into assets at other areas.
Regardless who cares whether Bolduc scores 25 or 35 heres what the Blues know they have in the near future
Buch Thomas Snuggerud
Holloway Dvorsky Kyrou
Neighbours Schenn Carbonneau
Stenberg, Kaskimaki, Peterson, whoever
Broberg Parayko
Lindstein Mailloux
Tucker Jiricek
Army is going to have to pay Snuggerud, Holloway and Broberg in the near term after already committing to Buch, Thomas and Kyrou. There simply isnt a space here for Bolduc.
At 20 yrs old the Blues brass saw Snuggerud in a tough Jets series go 2g 2as +2 in 7 GP and over 17 ATOI. By contrast Bolduc did very little. You could say perhaps the Blues should have dealt Neighbours, nope. JN is a stud future team leader, 1g 5ass. 17:51 ATOI vs the Jets and 33 Hits. JH is a lock to score 20+ with intangibles. So the choice was clear, Blues werent going to extend Bolduc.

I question why we needed to do this sort of gamble based on where the team is.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑24 Aug 2025 09:11 amCome on now. Is Mailoux the one missing piece that we need? No.
Are we close to a Stanley Cup? No.
Why are we making trades as though we are 1 RHD away from a Cup?
Didn't we draft a RHD in 2024 (Jiricek) that has much of the same up-side as Mailloux?
No matter how you look at this trade? It doesn't make sense. It shouldn't have been needed. We are giving up what we say we need more of (200ft players), to get just what we don't need, another "prospect project".
Anyone that looks at the big picture on this trade realizes that something is badly wrong with the Blues and their talent acquisition. The same can be said with the offer sheets. Getting Holloway and Broberg was great -- BUT THEY SHOULD NOT BE THE BEST PROSPECTS ON THE TEAM. That reflects very poor talent acquisition has been going on outside of the offer sheets.

It was supposed to say do. Brings much needed size with some edge to his game. However im sure the Blues are hoping hey landed a top 4 D. I don’t think this environment will be prime for him to develop. Parayko, Broberg, Fowler and Faulk to learn from and Montgomery to get the best out of him. As far as what has he done so far? Making 2 AHL all star games his first two AHL yeas is pretty significant and his coach said in the playoffs he was playing his best hockey. He even saw PK duty. I’m looking forward to see how he develops over the next 2-3 years.
I think the Blues saw the tangibles were there, his availability was there as were a few issues that have held back his potential.
They will go to work on the intangibles and they clearly saw a big opportunity with this player so they took it.

Its even worse for Bolduc when you compare Blues prospects on the horizon and their production at the AHL level:
Bolduc 54 gp 8 goals...25 pts ouch
Stenberg 38 gp 5 goals 17 pts
Kaskimaki 63 gp 11 goals 34 pts
Robertsson 26 gp 6 goals 13pts

Thomas? Kyrou? Buch?
Theyve all outperformed Bolduc on a daily basis.

No I'm not. I'm talking historical fact plus pointing out that it wasn't a square deal, like you were/are portraying it to be.
Also. Mailloux isn't a 3rd pairing nhler. He hasn't made the nhl. I'm 100% sure he will though. Like everyone army brings in personally. They get a great opportunity.
I like most everyone outside the Lou. Think you are undervaluing Bolduc. Anyone who paid attention to last year knows his stats were more management holding him back rather his play.

Neighbour is/was the right answer. If someone was to move. He is a poor man's Backes. Who had the value of a up and coming 2nd line power forward and the type of guy we have plenty of.

We can only make trades if the acquired player is the one missing piece now? Why? That makes no sense. We were flush with wingers and shallow on younger d-man. We evened that out.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑24 Aug 2025 11:19 amI question why we needed to do this sort of gamble based on where the team is.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑24 Aug 2025 09:11 amCome on now. Jiricek is 19. He’s a potential future RD. Mailloux is 3 years older and thus 3 years farther along on his development curve. We needed one now.
The trade makes plenty of sense to me and many others here clearly. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean the logic isn’t there.

Crazy talk.
He was a regular on the power play. In fact, a third of his points came on the power play. He got time on Thomas' line, just like Neighbours did. In fact, it could be said that he started to play better under Monty. That's not holding him back.
I hope Bolduc does well in Montreal, I'm a fan of the team.

Re: So how good will Mailloux be?
Except that's not the right answer. Prior the Blues RHD side was Parayko, Faulk, Kessel and nothing else so the organization had an immediate need. Also spots coming out of camp are a premium now at wing the Blues were in a position to trade from surplus. And no, trading Neighbours over Bolduc makes zero sense watch more hockey. Bolduc has not been close to realizing what Neighbours has already done in pro hockeyCahokanut wrote: ↑24 Aug 2025 12:10 pmThey didn't have to trade anyone., yet. But yes, time will tell. We’ll know more in a few years and I have little desire to argue about future player projections more. You have your opinion, I have mine. Clearly neither of us will be budging from our stances anytime soon.
