Gorman's lack of hustle

I thought this play was poor lack of awareness thinking it was gone. I have not noticed consistently lack of hustle. Frustrating play - yes, but not lack of hustle. I will say if since All-Star Game, the offensive side of Gorman is what we are getting for the rest of the season, then he is a player we are kind of missing. He is a power hitter on a team that lacks that. His patience is showing with walks and even if he just hits .240 but has an obp of say .330, he could be useful if he is giving you 25-30 homer potential. Now, can he show that enough for rest of season and do you buy on Gorman to be healthy or build up enough trade potential or do you use him as a DH knowing we have Burly/Herrera that are those types too but not the same power Gorman provides.

IMO somebody should knock Burleson out of a corner OF position or it is his
until they do. The other 2 OFers just need plus range. His .786 OPS places him #8 in
RF or LF in the MLB among qualified players, He's #13 as a DH.

Herrera has to C to have value, IMO, or trade, possible 1B.
Without knowing the plan with Donovan, other than it should be 2B or UT
difficult to project Gorman other than Saggese doesn't win that competition as of today,
JJ will get a long run, and as you say Gorman has a chance to fill the HR need,
BD doesn't.

Gorman's four-year tryout is beyond enough. In year four, he’s batting .223, one whole point over his career average of .222, with a grand total of 12 home runs in 83 games, leading to an OPS of .734, just shy of his career standard of .736. His Oops rate also remains on his career pace of one error every 10 games. He’s good to buy a new house in the burbs … of Springfield.

I hope everyone noticed his lack of hustle on the ball he hit off the top of the wall for a single.

I did notice that. I’ve always been disappointed in these athletes that don’t have a fight in them to try to win and be the best they can be. And kids who should be trying to improve themselves for the team, themselves and their future. But doesn’t appear they are held responsible. Same thing on plays where they can advance a base if always ready and willing. For example when Church didn’t score on a wild pitch, although he did get a second chance and fortunately he did score. They are out there for 3 hours. Have a little fire.

Also, it wasn't a lack of hustle. It was poor judgment if anything. He hit a (bleep) missel that he thought was gone, so he didn't bust it out of the box immediately.

Even if he had busted it out of the box, he isn't the fastest runner around, and that rocket off the wall in that bandbox, there are no promises that he isn't gunned down at 2B anyway.

Regardless, there isn’t a single player on this team that has earned the “captain cool” title of admiring their home runs. Whether that be because of being disappointments, haven’t proven anything yet, or a mixture of both.

Amen. The defense of low quality players that know zero about winning around here is amazing. At least if Oli has the chance of reading this he’ll sleep better knowing the fan base doesn’t care either.

Burleson and Gorman love to watch their batted balls to the OF. Instead of hustling out of box and letting 1 or 3rd base coach signal what to do, they watch then decide to do their version of hustle/running/jogging, etc.

Neither are overly athletic, quick, fast, etc and cannot afford to hit 320' singles. This team to win cannot afford 320' singles.

Because a talented team can use a 28;year old utility player. He's a slightly better TGTE.

and of course, I was not comparing the two players. I was asking which one you thought would get the better return in a trade.

Best upside for Cardinals is that Gorman hits a few HRs over the rest of season and stops playing 3B at a 30+ error pace. Maybe some team buys the power potential and overpays in a trade.
