The guy has better stuff and upside than Pallante and McGreevy. If he will maximize it is another question.
Agree on Pallante but not McGreevy. "Stuff" includes control and swing & miss stuff, and Oviedo has never had either.
Oviedo has averaged a 95 mph FB, which is not elite anymore.
His career is 7.93 K/9 and 4.33 BB/9.
His GB rate is 45%. That's not good stuff.
That's why his career is 14W/25L and a 4.31 ERA, 1.40 WHIP.
McGreevy is 8W/2/L career with 3.71 ERA, 1.08 WHIP. He has a worse 5.74 K/9 but a MUCH better 1.01 BB/9. He averages 93 mph on FB. He gives up a tad less than half of the HRs that Oviedo does.

Oviedo averaged 95.8 and 96.0 on his fastball in 2022 and 2023. Thats pretty high for starting pitchers. Theres probably less than 10 that avg over 97 and avg is around 93.5

And sorry, but I was referring to the present day, as the statement was that he "has better stuff and upside than Pallante and McGreevy."
I only noted the speed to emphasize that it wasn't a big differentiator for him (and is not elite). He sucked in 2023, his best year and only one where he pitched more than 62 innings. His lack of control allowed him to hit an incredible 13 batters that year.

Its 94.9 after 2 starts after coming back from a year layoff and tommy john.
Pitchers in spring training often throw softer as they are building up not to mention pitchers coming off tommy john typically take a half season to get up to velocity. I wouldnt be surprised for him to creep up to his 96 as year goes on.
I wouldnt say he sucked in 2023. He was a good 4th or 5th starter. His 2023 era would almost be best on our rotation barely behind liberatores who is fading

We disagree.
He can get his fastball up to 96 (he's only .9 mph lower than his career 95.6), but he'll still not have control (career average 4 1/3 BB per 9 innings!).
Comparing him to a Cards' staff that sucks isn't helping convince me.
