Re: Brant Brown
By all accounts, Brant Brown has put a lot of time in Jordan Walker. Do you think he has helped him?
Re: Brant Brown
Not much but Walker may be one of the most overrated prospects of all time. Who knows?Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 12:48 pm By all accounts, Brant Brown has put a lot of time in Jordan Walker. Do you think he has helped him?
Re: Brant Brown
Agree with that…Jatalk wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 12:42 pmValid point and I’m in no position to evaluate that. Just saying overall have not seen breakout improvement.
and I am not defending the coach at all…..

Re: Brant Brown
That would be up to the new manager. If the manager is told who his staff is going to be, then we have not moved forward from the MO years. Micro-managing from the front office needs to stop.
Hire the manager and allow him to select/hire his staff. If he fails, fire him. If you employ multiple managers who fail, then you get fired.

I'd include, Burleson, VS2 and Walker too. The issue with 3 of the 4 is that they may be showing progressTalkin' Baseball wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 12:29 pmGorman is better than he was a year ago.
or signs of improvement and still be a long way from where they need to be.
Burleson is getting close to where he could be a good LF/RF option, a little more SLG. 25+ HRs.
The arm is good, he's become competent in the OF.
Re: Brant Brown
It's pretty simple.
When Oli is let go after this year (and he will), the new coach will be able to bring in his own guys or choose to keep who is on staff. Most managers have a hitting coach they want new as it aligns with his philosophy on hitting.

To my eye he is a little better at not swinging at the outside breaking stuff. He is also real good at taking strikes down the middle.3dender wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 13:17 pmDoes it?moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 12:32 pmand Walkers chase rate has to be better than it was.. baby stepsTalkin' Baseball wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 12:29 pmGorman is better than he was a year ago.

He's a little better but it's inconsistent, and it could very well be that he's laying off more of them in total, but the same or less as a percentage because they're throwing it to him so much more.Jatalk wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 13:34 pmTo my eye he is a little better at not swinging at the outside breaking stuff. E.g. there was an AB in the last few games that the pitcher threw him 3 or 4 sliders in a row with two strikes, and he let the first ones go and then swung at the last one.

The change that you might be seeing is since July 18th. That will have limited affect on STAT's.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 13:33 pmI actually watch the games thx... and the low outside slider appears to be chased less than it had been3dender wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 13:17 pmDoes it?moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 12:32 pmand Walkers chase rate has to be better than it was.. baby stepsTalkin' Baseball wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 12:29 pmGorman is better than he was a year ago.

He was basically the same as it ever was before then.
I think he is chasing the absurd off the plate less. The ones over in the other batters box.
He MIGHT be in a better spot, needs confidence in the changes which takes both time and production.
Needs more balance and improved recognition. He's got a way to go.

Re: Brant Brown
definitely needs better recognition .. and a better idea going into the batters box would be nice as wellrenostl wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 14:11 pmThe change that you might be seeing is since July 18th. Re: Brant Brown
You know, that's the part I don't understand. I know that it is SOOO hard to hit at the major league level, so the physical part I understand. I get maybe lunging, missing, or being late- but the being lost I don't understand. If you've heard Walker speak, he is very smart, he cares, and by all accounts he puts the work in. All that being true, it just seems like he would be further along with pitch recognition and a plan. He may have a plan, but he often looks lost.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 14:39 pmdefinitely needs better recognition .. and a better idea going into the batters box would be nice as wellrenostl wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 14:11 pmThe change that you might be seeing is since July 18th. Re: Brant Brown
Nope. The manager and the entire coaching staff need to go.
