I look at all these old ladies walking around downtown after I get off work and I have to think that they are packing some serious heat. Otherwise, how are they avoiding getting beaten and robbed constantly like all these manly men here are afraid of?

Downtown? Between the 100% probability that you WILL get murdered if you go downtown and the fact that the temperature is just below that of the surface of the planet Mercury, you may be the bravest human being I've ever encountered.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 11:00 amI look at all these old ladies walking around downtown after I get off work and I have to think that they are packing some serious heat. I am sad to report I got murdered at the cubs game last week. I had a small bottle of water I left in my car. I was going to send my 6 yr old back to the car by herself to fetch it but I decided to go.
Made it to the car and almost back when I was held up at gunpoint near a large pike of trash. I got shot 9 times.
Good news is the funeral was a rager.

Also, I’m not sending my wife or kid to get something forgotten in the car alone at any stadium. That’s a weird statement.
I'll say this again: the parking garage is across the street from the stadium. You park there with tens of thousands of other people, walk across a street with tens of thousands of other people and go inside. What people are really saying is:
1. I don't like to see a homeless/poor person. They don't look like me.
2. I can't save $10 by parking at Laclede's Landing and walk across the Arch grounds at 10 p.m.
3. They won't let me bring muh gun inside.
That part might be the stupidest post I've read in a long time.

Send in the National Guard!!
They can hang out at the tourist attractions like they're doing in D.C. Actually the murder rate in St. Louis is higher than in D.C. so maybe...

Why do you say that? Be honest, that's really what people are saying. They're uncomfortable in cities, and that's what they're really getting at. There is zero reason for people to feel unsafe if they use their heads and some common sense.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 12:06 pmdesertrat23 wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025 13:52 pmSeriously. You make it sound like someone with a fear of crime in the big cities is some sort of loon or has some sort of prejudice. That isn't true. Listen, I am not particularly afraid in downtown STL, especially around the stadium, but I am very aware that it is potentially unsafe and could become unsafe real quick, depending on the situation. This is normal behavior and practicing caution is smart, particularly if you are looking out for a family. Most big cities in the downtown parts are like this.desertrat23 wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 12:22 pmWhy do you say that? Be honest, that's really what people are saying. Most homeless people aren't bad, but it is naive to say that a homeless person couldn't be dangerous. I don't know many people who want to walk their families through streets of homeless people. That isn't being prejudice.
Downtown St. Louis is mostly run down and nasty. There are some nice parts, but it is not a place I "feel safe" in. Overall, though, it is a hole.

I don't disagree and I don't think your assessment is wrong about STL either. But to read some of the posts on this board, FB, etc., you'd think downtown was Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025 14:35 pmYou make it sound like someone with a fear of crime in the big cities is some sort of loon or has some sort of prejudice. Everyone has an opinion in Kentucky we may say , somebody’s trash is another man’s treasure. When I look around the stadium is it not clean it’s trashy looking. As far as an law enforcement presence it is not there. There should be so many more there walking around and making their presence known. There are clean nice areas around St.Louis that are safe , but downtown is not one of them .

It was gross. It was anchovies, goat cheese, hot pickles, and rum ham sauce. How was the burrito?
The Cardinals won on a walk-off walk in the bottom of the 17th inning, 1-0. They sent "The Big Sweat" Esteban Yan in to pinch hit with the bases loaded and he drew the game winning, 22-pitch walk after fouling off 17 straight pitches.Did the Cardinals win?
George, it was a RAGER! I drank 27 O'Doul's, punched your grandma in the face, took off all my clothes and had #SaveOli spraypainted on my chest and showed everyone how big of a Cardinals "Greatest Fans in Baseball" follower I was. I also got a ZJ in the kitchen from your aunt Martha. RIP George!I am sad to report I got murdered at the cubs game last week. I had a small bottle of water I left in my car.
