No one on the current roster even comes close to being a franchise player.
i think Rainiel shows all the signs.
Someone coming up with Rodriguez who may not make it at all, but if he does- Padilla is electric. I hope he can hit enough to make it. He's years away.
Padilla is a true stud. Sad about his injury that lost him the last month of his season. His bat was coming alive, too.

True 65plus on the Glove and Arm at SS. And 70 speed. 50 Hit....needs power, but he might...stress might grow into the power.

And he's only 17yo

Winn is a good player. But if he's your franchise player, you aren't a good team. He's not even a top 3 player on a good team.

I think the 3 W's and Herrera may one day be all stars. Gorman could be a Schwarber type player. Cards have some fine cathcers in their system. One of them may be an all star type player. I look forward to see what the Cards have in Doyle.

Could be an everyday player, doesn't have "franchise player" potential (IMO).

Cardinals are loaded w/quality catching prospects.

Bloom can certainly package one w/Donny or Noot or Burleson and hopefully land a starting pitcher!
It's the bat. Have you actually seen him play? He's only 18.

Wetherholt, Winn, and Walker all have potential for All Star consideration. In the minors, Joshua Baez is starting to come on strong.

I'll take that bet on Winn/Walker who will likely never even sniff an all-star selection.
I'll take that bet on Winn. he's having a sophomore year. watch out next year.
There at least six-seven current NL shortstops he's going to have to beat out w/more to come in the future.

But I hope you're right and win this "fake" bet.
Power is the key. To be an elite SS in today’s game 25HR minimum will be needed. 15 relegates him to a glove only player.

What’s happening to JWalker? Thought he’d get extended runway until season’s end. Not in the lineup tonight.
But back to the question at hand: I’m putting my $$ on Walker. I think he’s getting his hitting straightened out. And once he does, I think his power will come around. I’m not as high on Herrera as some. Winn is a wonderful defensive shortstop, but he’s unlikely to hit enough to carry the team. Gorman — I don’t know. He needs to hit more, strike out less. His defense at 3rd is suspect. Other than JJ, I’m not sure there are any players worth counting on. JJ is killing minor league pitching, but until he can do it on the major league level I’ll hold off anointing him as the next superstar. The team has some good players in the majors and in the minors. Unfortunately, they all won’t be on the Big League level with best stuff at the same time.

Of course not but it's almost impossible to say an 18 yr old kid has "franchise potential" unless he's a phenom which Rainiel certainly is not.

That plus a low OB%, minimal stolen bases, ect.........

I don't see the E. Renteria comps some try to make.

How many 18 year olds dominate the lower professional leagues the way Rodriguez has? you might be right and you might be wrong about him. Sure its early, but that's why he's in the discussion. Agree to disagree.

Hundreds have dominated rookie/A ball, but I hope this kid becomes a stud.

And no sweat on opinions, I always respect yours huge.
