Rice does NOT belong in burritos

Post by BrummerStealsHome »

It's among the unwritten rules of food.

It's filler. If you need filler then your burrito is inferior. Besides, you get all the carbs you need from the tortilla.

You know I love and respect you, Brother, but is it ok if I still get rice in mine, just because I ike it?

The original mesoamerican cuisine was centered around the trinity of corn, beans and squash. There was no rice until the Europeans invaded and brought their steel weapons and deadly diseases. So, yea, no rice.

While I don't like rice in a burrito, that is my preference. To say it doesn't belong is just snobbery. Whatever someone likes in a burrito is what belongs.

Well . . . anyone who has spent any appreciable time in Mexico, especially away from tourist areas, knows that Mexicans don't think rice belongs in burritos either. Bluff called.

Well, I would much rather have rice in my burrito than corn, frijoles refritos, and squash. Black beans are great in a burrito, and I always substitute them for frijoles refritos on any Mexican combo plate whenever possible. I lived in Texas in the sixties, and had much Tex Mex cuisine before it was popular in the St. Louis area. Yes Tex Mex is what is served in almost all of the restaurants here.

If y'all want to try some cabrito, you can visit Fort Worth and go to Don Artemio or Mercado Juarez. Buen provecho!

Thanks for the tip. I've had cabrito in Monterrey but never in the states.

First thing I thought of when I read this was that nutjob Beld trying to tell everyone how they should like their coffee and what is an acceptable way to drink it!

With that said, I like rice but not in my burrito. So I'm OK with your position on this most pressing issue. Also, you're a great poster on here, whereas Beld was full of himself and a d-bag.

Agreed. And this is merely a testing of the waters for some REAL culinary controversy . . . . like beans in chili.

Bwahahahaha. If you’re going to play purist the. You can’t have flour tortillas, pork, beef, chickens, onions, or cheese. And you can’t pair it with any beers made with hops or barley.

I’ll pass. Although I have no use for onions and prefer corn tortillas.
