Back to the thread. Korotky getting 30 games as an 18/19 year old in the KHL is a big step forward for the kid, and hopefully shows promise. Vorobyov nailed down a full season, but he's a little longer in the tooth. If he comes to the AHL after his contract, then we'll know he's in consideration for NHL time.

That's all I can say on these two kids...
I'm holding on to some hope for Korotky. Do feel like there could be something there. The others...shrug.
That’s how I see it too. As long as we’re talking the forwards anyway. We may actually have something in Korotky but I don’t see much in either Susuyev or Vorobyov.

But Koromyslov may be the best of the bunch. He won’t produce a lot of offense but I see real defensive ability with him. He has 1 year left on his KHL contract so hoping he comes over to N.A. next season.
Yea, Koromyslov had a huge year in the KHL as getting traded off of Petersburg was THE turning point for his development. Ending up on a contender and getting a big role (one win away from winning it all) really opened my eyes (and a lot of others). It's a shame I was stuck in Korea for the prospect camp.
What prospect camp was in Korea??

And yeah, him getting traded was good for him. Gave him a defining role that hopefully extends into this season.

Fun fact: Koromyslov is now the first and only d-man in KHL history to score a goal for 3 different teams in the same season.
I think he's saying he was stuck in Korea and had to miss the prospect camp lol
This.

I do IT work for the DoD, and was stuck at Osan AB getting a system up and running that hasn't been used in almost 4 years. I did like my place in Itaewon though (great restaurants).

Reading his (Korotky) stat chart it appears he had a hard go of it in KHL to start then came back stronger to finish the year in the MHL.

Anything to take from that?
Not very accurate. Not even the timeline.

He started off the season in the MHL, did very well. Then was promoted to the VHL (their top minor league) for 2 games before quickly being promoted to the KHL for the 2nd half of the season. As a teenager on the KHL’s richest and veteran heavy team, he didn’t get a lot of ice time. 9 pts in 30 games isn’t “a hard go of it” for a teenager at all. The fact SKA even played him in that many games that young is a very good thing in and of itself. Most of his points came in the last 10-15 games as he got a bit more ice time.

Once SKA was eliminated from the playoffs, they sent him back to their MHL team to play in the Jr playoffs. His team made it all the way to Game 7 of the championship series which unfortunately they lost. He was by far the best player on his team. Pretty sure he led the MHL playoffs in scoring or maybe was 2nd. I think he missed the first few games of the first series because he was still with the KHL team then.
Thanks for the updates there. I'm not into this like some of you and I was just trying to interpret and inquire about what I thought I was following on basic stat sheets.

So to go further...what is MHL versus the more well know KHL? Is this similar to AHL versus the Q or OHL?
The MHL is their top Jr league. So similar to the OHL, WHL, QMJHL, USHL, Swedish J20 etc. Although the caliber in talent is very wide. Some teams are pretty darn good while others are absolute garbage. How it works in most Euro leagues is a club will have a top division team, a minor league team, a junior team and also often many other even younger teams like U18, U16 etc. Try to get the top talent young, develop them and progress them up levels as they improve.

The VHL is their top minor league. VHL is to KHL as AHL is to NHL. But obviously the VHL is much lower caliber than the VHL.

Haha fair. I read it too fast I guess and read it as “for a prospect camp” lol.

But yeah, I wasn’t able to attend any of development camp this year either. And seemed like it got less coverage than normal. And fewer people here that went and provided write ups.

But I’m going to take this opportunity to share a Korea story as my wife used to work there before we got married. Many years ago, I went to go visit her for a week and one night we went out to this bar called Beer O’Clock that was owned by a Canadian dude named Clark (no, not Clark the Canadian Hockey Goalie) and when he found out I played he invited me to play hockey the next day. I had no gear though and obviously my wife (gf at the time) had a full agenda of stuff for us that definitely did not include my playing hockey lol. But they had hockey on the tvs and had this fun +/- shot drinking game. You’d get a plate with 10 shots on it and you had to drink them within a certain timeframe. I forgot exactly what it was but I think it was 3 hours. That last few were purposely gross. If you completed it on time, your country of origin would get a +. If you didn’t, you’d get a -. Well, I’m proud to say my gf and I added 2 more pluses to team USA that night. I recall USA was way ahead, like +500 or something, then Canada…while Japan was -200 something.
I guess either the Japanese suck with shots or Clark just didn’t like them or something lol.

I also work in IT and help with system installs so that’s interesting. Didn’t know we worked in similar fields. I just do it for a bank though so not super secret DoD stuff lol. But also probably not systems designed in the 60s either. :D

After all you know T...it's really all about......

hahahaha
I mean it honestly quite sad. People post and seconds later he replies; morning, noon or night.

A tragic clown living out his life chained to a forum hundreds of miles from where he lives.

T bone, you always have great memes, but that’s one of your best!!! Although, given the subject, isn’t that raw sewage being poured into his head rather than coffee?

Keep dancing on my strings, boy. I OWN you.
Was I dancing on your strings when you were punted for a week because of me?

Great hockey thread … I know you do not understand the sport but …
Whats up gray boy. You seem pretty but hurt today. On a side note we all like tbone and think you are nothing more than a P[ositively] O[bnoxious] S[impleton]. SO enjoy the rest of the day.
You’re on a hockey message board degrading homosexuality.

Oof

Laughing hard

Here’s the only part of the article that really said much of anything to me:
During camp, Koromyslov acted as a translator for Susuyev, interpreting questions before Susuyev was able to respond in English himself.

“I don’t know English good, but I want to play here, and I need to learn it,” Koromyslov said. “We have teachers in Russia.”
Koromyslov says he wants to be here so he’s focusing on learning English. He also says his English isn’t good but clearly it’s at least decent his quotes make sense and he’s acting as an interpreter for Susuyev. Tells me he has high standards for himself.

My gut tells me he’ll be heading over the pond this time next year.
