Add Hicks to the list of ex-Cards failing relievers

Post by opti mist »

Hicks' career with the Red Sox has not gone as planned so far. He has pitched to a 6.23 ERA with 11 strikeouts and eight walks in 13 innings of work. Despite throwing a fastball that can reach triple digits with ease, he does not miss a lot of bats.

This is really different than the list of ex-Cards hitters that we have traded away.

What is the message here?

hicks was never that good? and what is the list of ex-cards relievers that are failing, besides Helsley?

I do remember the angst here when hicks pitched a decent half of a season a coupla years ago lol

The message I guess is that you need more than just velocity to be able to strike out MLB hitters and ultimately be effective. And whatever else is needed, Hicks ain't got it.

Still only just turning 29, so not out of the question for him to establish a 2nd stage to his career and become effective somehow. But he'll have to figure out how to pitch better, and not just throw.

hicks is awful,he had flashes for short periods but for a guy who throws as hard as he does he gets hit, doesnt have command and in general is a huge disappoitment

The message, once again, is that John Mozeliak has NEVER sold high on any player.

Ever.
