I met Musial at St. Raphael’s. I met Gibson in KC when I umpires his son. I saw all 3 play. I watched Musial play his last game on TV. I saw both Gibson and Brock numerous times. I was there when Brock stole 104 and 105. I saw him get hit 3,000 and his last game. Gibby? I watched him win 7 WS games in a row while hitting 2 HR. I saw him limp to the mound in the next to last game of 1973, six weeks after tearing up his knee in NY. He handed Carlton his 20th loss and made a 15 year old boy cry at his courage and his badassness. I saw him strike out Cesar Geronimo to become only the 2nd pitcher to strikeout 3,000. And, sadly I was there when Pete LaCock ended his career with a grand slam. So, yeah. I saw them

Saw Musial play in 62 at my first game. Didn’t attend another game until 1987 so missed out seeing Gibson and Lou.

These where some of the greats of past Cardinal tradition. I met and talked to Stan, Brock and Gibson. Stan and Lou were two great people. Got to know Gibson after picking up at several card shows, and we hit off well. He was a nice person with a great personality for being a tough guy, which he was.
Also met many others who were my heroes of the 50's and 60's. Just seems the Cardinal tradition has passed us by lately.
Now batting #6, Musial - Stan Musial! I can still hear the voice when he came to bat.

I remember being at a game when Brock broke a record. Was in a box my Pops got from him company that day...didn't understand at the time why we were cheering so long. Never saw Gibby or Stan. Have a pic autographed by Stan to me my parents got when he owned Musial & Biggies, they went in there a lot.

I was a 9 year old kid in 1963 attending my first Cardinal game and got to see Stan play that game against the Reds. I do remember he hit a ground rule double off the screen in right field. I was in awe of just being at old Sportsman Park thought it was unbelievable place to see a game. I was born and raised in Monette Arkansas and listened to Jack and Harry do those games felt like I was there! I saw Lou and Bob play numerous times over the year and was there the night Gibson took the line drive off his leg breaking it. Still live in Arkansas and attend several games every year! Have lived thru some great years and also some not so great years with the Cardinals. We probably will never see the likes of Stan, Lou and Bob again. Great players and even better people.

And you won't either.Boiler Bird wrote: ↑17 Aug 2025 18:46 pm I saw Stan The Man play at Busch Stadium in 1962 and 1963 and first saw Gibson and Brock at brand-new Busch Memorial Stadium in 1966. I met Brock in 1979, his last year as a player, the day after he’d taken over the league lead in hitting (.382), and met with him again in 1980. I met Gibson in 1981 while he was coaching the Mets for Joe Torre. I have yet to see their like.

Brock and Gibson and most of the NL players of that era. I'm 70 yo and just missed seeing Musual. I remember, as a kid in Central Illinois, trying to find the right spot in the house to pick up KMOX broadcasts on my transistor radio.

I’m 50. Saw Brock at my first game in 78. Met Gibson in ‘88. Met Musial in ‘87, ‘90 and 2000. I was also lucky enough to see and meet most all of my favorite childhood players from the ‘80s and ‘90s up to and including Pujols a couple of times. So (bleep) lucky. My biggest misses are Hernandez and Hendrick. Otherwise I’d say I’ve met every Cardinal I’d ever want to.

I saw Gibby and Lou many times. From central Illinois and Dad took us to 2-3 games a year. I loved when a pitcher knocked Lou down as you could almost guarantee he would get a hit. Saw Gibson get hit by line drive from Clemente and got up and pitched a little more with a broken leg. Both of them were tough as nails and played with flair and joy. I remember 64 a little but listened to every game in 67 and 69 seasons. Suffered through the 70’s. Jack Buck could paint quite a picture with his words nobody else is close.

Only saw Brock in person. We lived 8-9 hours from St Louis but had family there. Amazingly was there when Brock got his 3,000 hit off Dennis Lamp. Sat by an older couple who were Cub fans. Never stood or clapped for Lou when he got the hit. As a teenager that started my realization of what the rivalry was.
Re: Who actually saw Musial, Brock or Gibson play?
Saw all three. Saw Musial play in 63. Went to Musial and Biggies and Stan was there. Talk about a starstruck 9 year old my dad said I couldn't talk and he got the autographed picture that I still have.
Saw Gibson against Drysdale and the Dodgers. Probably 1965. Got his autograph on a ball long after he retired at a show.
Saw Brock every year between 63 to 68. Got his autograph at a Memphis Redbird game a couple of years before he died.
