Signing with the Yankees didn't stunt Drew Henson's career as the Michigan quarterback.
It stunted the hell out of his senior season when he gave it up for MLB money.
Yes, he left after his junior season after signing a $17,000,000 contract with the Yankees.

But he also had surgery on his right foot the previous season where John Navarre took over his spot. Navarre also became an NFL quarterback.

So it's debatable if Henson skipped his senior year due to Navarre, injury or his Yankee contract. My guess it was a combination of all three.

Phil Bradley stated that the odds of making it in MLB unscathed by injury was much, much higher than doing the same in the NFL. That's what I believe drove many multi-sport athletes to forgo the NFL. They didn't want to become the next Bo Jackson footnote.

Now $17,000,000 in 1998 (Henson contract) is quite a bit more than $497,500 in 2025 (Horn contract) plus Horn's NIL money far exceeds Henson's (which was zero).

It was speculated (not sure if it was true) that Sam Horn turned down an offer from Tennessee for $7,700,000 to enter the transfer portal and become a Volunteer. If true, turning down nearly $8M shows that a $0.5M contract won't swing the needle much with Mr. Horn.

If that's true that Tennessee offered Horn $7.7 million, and it was TWICE what his current NIL deal is, then that would make me question how secure Pribula is in the starting role. They would be paying Horn money comparable to what they are paying Pribula, and therefore wouldn't balk at playing Horn over Pribula.

I'd be astonished if anyone offered $7.7M to any QB coming off TJ surgery, especially one who hasn't played since he was throwing to Travis Hunter. But what do I know? I am certain the guy the Vols got from App State cost a lot less.

How about this suggestion? If college players are going to get paid, let us fans in on the contract details.

BTW, that correctsports site gets pretty low marks for reliability.

The $7.7M offers seems awfully hard to believe since he still at Mizzou. Even if Horn had the starting job locked up, turning down $7.7M is difficult to swallow.
Gabe DeArmond just posted Mizzou's record with 1st year starting QBs since Brad Smith and the average wins was something like 6.6 with I think the max being 8-5. That includes Daniel, Gabbert, Franklin, Lock, Cook, etc. That being said, Pribula has to be the guy, b/c you really don't want a new QB two years in a row. So, while this year is all that matters, it's not ALL that matters. Any ties will go to Pribula, so Horn is really going to have to separate himself, and he might have to do it against Central Arkansas. Otherwise, if it's neck and neck, Pribula's getting the nod.

Horn is not going to turn down 7 figures from Mizzou in 2026 to play minor league baseball.

Especially after a successful season playing QB in the SEC.

I thought Horn has 2 years of eligibility left, same as Pribula.

Playing QB at this level is a full time gig.

Pribula will be the starter baring injury. I'd bet real money on it.
Kyler Murray begs to differ.

He signed with the dodgers. He’s going to be a professional baseball player in the spring. He can’t play professional baseball and college football at the same time. I guess he could legally but not in reality.

He signed with the Dodgers on the deadline date, so they could keep control just in case

That's the REALITY.
