Cards' OF churn-last 10 years
has been truly remarkable. Eleven different players have reached 1,000 PA's. No Player reached 2,000 plate appearances, or a 12 WAR. Noot has received the most runway.

Look at those stats from the current OF. It’s enough to make a grown man cry. Come on, Moe. What the hell is wrong with you?

Interesting that the best are mostly hated.
+54.4 Harrison Bader - average offense; great defense; sold at about the right time for Jordan Montgomery
+42.6 Tommy Pham - great offense; sold too early for a poor return
+41.1 Tyler O'Neill - Mr Injury - obtained for Marco Gonzales; sold for nothing
+32.8 Jason Heyward - one year wonder!
+31.4 Lars Nootbar - does everything slightly above average
+14.0 Randall Grichuk - sold at about the right time but the return was blah
+03.1 Marcel Ozuna - only offense; goodbye Sandy Alcantara (2 AS; 1 CYA) and Zac Gallen (1 AS; 3 top ten CYA finishes)
+00.5 Stephen Piscotty - Mr Average; traded for humanitarian reasons
-03.2 Brendan Donovan - not his best position
-03.8 Victor Scott - only defense
-08.6 Matt Holliday - tail end of a good contract
-09.0 Jon Jay - the failure has become the teacher
-11.9 Jose Martinez - only offense
-20.5 Dylan Carlson (highly ranked prospect)
-23.4 Alec Burleson - only offense
-33.5 Jordan Walker (highly ranked prospect)
-34.3 Dexter Fowler ($82.5M well spent)

Had high hopes for Ozuna too. The trade would have been fine if they had locked up Ozuna. But to trade all that talent for him and then let him walk was beyond stupid.Cranny wrote: ↑16 Aug 2025 19:46 pmNot a good trade - purely in retrospect.ecleme22 wrote: ↑16 Aug 2025 18:39 pmHopefully bloom doesn’t make reckless trades like that.Cranny wrote: ↑16 Aug 2025 18:09 pmHad high hopes for Ozuna too. Re: Cards' OF churn-last 10 years
It just seems there is something systemic in the organization not producing one all-star outfielder in a decade (outside the odd selection). The Cards haven't even attempted a post-arb contract in that time with any of these guys.
Wish we would have traded for Yelich instead of Ozuna when the Marlins were rebuilding. Yelich was traded in 2018 to Milwaukee for:
Lewis Brinson
Isan Diaz
Monte Harrison
Jordan Yamamoto

He had bursitis. Hardly damaged. The course of treatment is rest, anti-inflammatories followed by rehab. Ozuna insisted on rehabbing on his own, but didn’t follow the program.Absolut wrote: ↑16 Aug 2025 19:56 pmHe was damaged when they got himCranny wrote: ↑16 Aug 2025 19:46 pmNot a good trade - purely in retrospect.ecleme22 wrote: ↑16 Aug 2025 18:39 pmHopefully bloom doesn’t make reckless trades like that.Cranny wrote: ↑16 Aug 2025 18:09 pmHad high hopes for Ozuna too. Re: Cards' OF churn-last 10 years
Yelich was not available. The Marlins were adamant about that. What made Yelich especially attractive was his contract. It’s why the Marlins were reluctant to trade him. In addition, the Cardinals wanted a MOTOB and to that point Yelich had been a top of the order guy. It wasn’t until he got to Milwaukee and met a guy named Ryan Braun that he suddenly turned into a 40 HR guy. Not surprisingly, he’s broken down.JohnTudor1985 wrote: ↑16 Aug 2025 20:06 pm It just seems there is something systemic in the organization not producing one all-star outfielder in a decade (outside the odd selection). At the time, the Marlins wanted either Reyes or Flaherty, both rated higher by EVERYONE than Alcantara. Gallen was the price of keeping those two. He was the one guy I hated to see go. I didn’t mind Alcantara because guys like Ozuna, don’t come cheap. One last thing: very few people wanted Ozuna re-signed.
